My Apologies

sad face   I recently posted a photo of a van that belongs to Alma C. Roach parked in a handicapped space. I trusted a source that informed me that the handicapped plate that was on the van was for Ms. Roach’s child.

A comment was recently posted on the thread from Ms. roach,

Alma C. Roach says:

Thank you all for your kind words with regard to MY disabilities. I have a Handicapped Tag on my van, as pictured above a few weeks ago, issued by my physician due to health issues. I have had 2 surgeries on my left knee and 3 on my right knee. I have a pin in my left ankle. I am currently having issues with my left hip. I have also had 2 shoulder surgeries. Arthritis is a terrible health issue for me. I have battled with this all my life. I recall my mother placing steamed towels on my legs to help my knees to relieve some of the stiffness and discomfort. I truly wish I had a healthy body and didn’t have to worry about how I will feel at the end of my work day. I do not park at that spot ALL day; I park there, WHEN IT’S AVAILABLE, 8:00 to 12 Noon, four days a week. I have this TAG for MY health reasons. Again, I thank you for your concerns for myself and my daughter; I look forward to working for you and with you in the future!
Alma C. Roach”

According to the email address, and the web address attached to the comment, I am confident (yeah I know) that this comment was legitimate.

I will be removing that article, and would like to offer my sincere apologies to Ms. Roach. While I felt confident in my source, that has been called into question.

Again, let me say I am sorry for any misunderstanding this has caused.

Well I sure thought her response was gracious, God bless.

  2. Hypocrazy Watch says:

Now that Pat Fish has read a retraction and apology post from a blogger, will she be able to put on her man pants and write one herself the next time she posts total BS?

  3. FLYLADY says:

    Well done, Frank!

  4. freebodie says:

Pat will never apologize for writing one sided half truths! Good job frank!

  5. Laffter says:

I don’t think I would have posted the blog in the first place Frank- but you did

However- you put on the big boy pants and did the right thing
Congrats to Alma for addressing the issue – it was the right thing to do
Thank you Frank for apologizing – it ALSO was the right thing to do

    WHAAAT!

    How about:

“I called Ms. Roach about this email and her from her own mouth that it was she who sent it. I am terribly sorry for the harm I have done to Ms. Roach’s reputation and am ashamed of what I said and suggested about her integrity. As for my ‘source,’ while I will not drag that person into this, this was the last time I will place any trust in a word that comes out of the source’s mouth.”

Now THAT would be an apology. No namby-pamby, no slipping and sliding, just honest self-shaming.

Lord, Frank, try humility some time.

  7. Honi Soit says:

It speaks very well of you Frank for admitting your error and correcting the record so openly. Would that Pat Fish writing on Delawarepolitics.net could do the same.

  8. saltyindependent says:

nice retraction. mrs. roach responded with class, and to be honest i can see some scenarios in which a handicapped dependent would qualify for a tag. the obvious one is the passenger who requires a wheel chair. imagine this scenario: a severely autistic adult child who has a history of darting into the road. parents who have kids with disabilities are much bette equipped to manage the physical requirement of the job when they are younger and their child is younger and smaller. as parents age and children grow it can become much more difficult to manage. a spot closer to the entrance of a building could make a big difference.

I agree with Jaded Observer. Frank knowing your ego this was one hell of a hard swallow for you to apologize. But it should have never happened in the first place. Why use a source when its your reputation for all the world to see, call yourself and do the right thing every time you write an article, call the people/person get the information straight, then uoh don’t have apologize.

It boils down to how much does your reputation, integrity and character mean to you? With your past conduct not much.

I hope this wasn’t from her opponents campaign. If so, I think Frank should reveal that. I’ve known Alma Roach a long time and would not expect this behavior from her. It’s sad to see such mud slinging at the recorder of deeds level. Is this the level we have sunken to? I am a long time Republican but when I look at the Recorder of Deeds I don’t feel comfortable electing a prominant builder and real estate agent to office. It signals a conflict of interest to me.

Got something to say? Go for it!
