Democrats in Delaware Legislature Get High Paying Jobs

Goodness it’s like the best job in town is to be a Democrat in the Delaware legislature.

Although, hey, one of these vacancies might be filled by a Republican,Eileen O’Shaughnessy-Coleman, in the special election to be held on Sept. 9, 2015.

Barbieri’s resignation from the House of Representatives took effect Monday.  He leaves to become the new director of the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health.

Barbieri, who was employed as a social worker during his House tenure, will increase his annual salary by nearly $100,000 with the change of state positions.

And this one:

What’s with daycare in Delaware?

Two women have been charged in the deaths of children in separate incidents, state police and justice officials said Thursday.

They were identified as Valorie Handy, 51, of Millsboro, and Detoshia Spence, 23, of Laurel, both charged with murder by abuse or neglect, first-degree, following indictments Monday by a grand jury.

These women were charged with both the deaths of children in their care as well as, in the case of Spence with the death of her own daughter.

Handy is charged with the death of a 10-month old boy. That’s pretty serious neglect there.

New Delaware Internet Rules-4 new and already Frank Knotts might be violating one

CALM DOWN!

I jest.

Four new Internet specific bills were passed last year and first, right there, I wonder about states passing Internet laws. The Internet is world wide; seems like a pain to have fifty sets of Internet rules in America.
The new rules are common sense things. One details that prohibited items as age appropriate can’t be sold to those too young. One cannot sell guns to youths, as I understand it.

One provides that educational institutions cannot sell student data to outside firms. Does this mean this sort of thing is done now?

One new law is very appropriate and was sponsored by Republicans, one of which was Bryant Richardson, the new Republican senator from Seaford. This law forbids employers from demanding access to an employee’s social media on their own time. This law does allow an employer to take action should the company’s good name be hurt and it does not make unlawful present rules in companies as they existed before the law.

It’s a conundrum, this Internet and what can be controlled and what cannot. We’ll do some more research on this subject.

The final one is an odd one. It provides assurance of online privacy to any individual who belongs in what is called an “address confidentiality program” in that no one can post their pictures or other personal information online if one is enrolled in this specific program.

It seems, as I understand, that victims of sexual assault and stalking get into this program as part of their victim rights, if they choose.

Which means if I sign up for this thing maybe Frank can’t put ugly pictures of me on his Blog post.

Maybe?

Now I question this because I myself put up ugly pictures of myself on the Internet but if I suddenly have a stalker and sign up for this confidentiality program, one cannot use even the pics I put up myself?

Hmmmmmm. Will investigate more.

Delaware’s School Health Rules

WXDE’s Dan Gaffney points out the outrageous health info Delaware schools are requiring for 9th graders.

New rules (started in 2013/2014 school year) in Delaware require 9th grade students to submit forms detailing a very specific health history. Gone are the days of just simple “shot records”, now the government officials want to know about the condition of your child’s skin and all past surgeries. The schools are asking about the health of your son’s testicles, family history of sudden death, dental concerns, urinary tract, mental and nutritional health, and on and on. The schools are requiring this comprehensive health information to “prevent exclusion from school”.

It does seem a bit much, don’t it?

Republican letter to Planned Parenthood

I am very impressed by this letter sent to certain Delaware health and social service officials by the Republican party, signed by House Minority leader Danny Short and Senate minority leader Gary Simpson.

Congrats guys, for doing this.

They are expecting a response by August 12. We’re watching out for the response.

Dr. Karyl Rattay
Director, Division of Public Health

Dear Secretary Landgraf and Director Rattay:

We write today regarding the recently released videos showing Planned Parenthood officials allegedly selling aborted fetal tissue for profit.

In the videos released by the Center for Medical Progress, Planned Parenthood executives are shown negotiating over the prices of aborted body parts. In one video, a Planned Parenthood official laughs, saying she hopes to sell enough of the body parts to buy a Lamborghini. The Center for Medical Progress also alleges that Planned Parenthood alters abortion procedures to better recover usable fetal tissue.

The point of this letter is not to engage in a discussion of ethics. As the stewards of taxpayer money, our goal is to gather information about Planned Parenthood of Delaware, an organization that receives part of its funding from the state. To that end, we request answers to the following questions no later than August 12, 2015:

1. Does Planned Parenthood of Delaware harvest or sell the body parts or tissue from abortions performed at any of their Delaware facilities?
2. If so, what are the state and federal laws and policies regarding fetal tissue extraction, sales and research?
3. Who oversees Planned Parenthood of Delaware, ensuring they are following state and federal laws?
4. Can you provide for us all of the federal and state sources of Planned Parenthood of Delaware funding?
5. In light of the allegations cited above do you plan to conduct an investigation of Planned Parenthood of Delaware?
Thank you for your attention to and assistance in this matter.

Sincerely,

Wow corrupt people in Dover. Too bad the Republicans can’t field any candidates who run on issues of competence and effectual government. Someone like me who would love to vote against entrenched democrats but the alternative is angry republican candidates obsessed with sexual issues, sheriff fetishes, ebola fear mongering and the ole rile up the rubes with misogyny, racism, religion, anti-intellectualism and hate. No thanks. I wonder if the republicans will ever realize they used to win elections with reasonable candidates?

Got something to say? Go for it!
