The Duke Of Dogmatism

Dukes Brooks   My last post was about the recent Delaware state Republican convention, and the fact the GOP managed to elect a young woman, Emily Taylor, to the  high leadership position of Vice-Chair. I titled it “The Future”.     It seems not all Republicans are happy with the results. This is to be expected whenever there is a contest. Someone has to win, and someone has to lose, and often the side who loses is left feeling they have been taken advantage of. And other times they act like little babies.

Is anyone surprised that Duke “Doobie” Brooks would fall into the latter category? This is a “man” who played his role in falsely calling the police on me, to have me removed from a public meeting of the Sussex GOP. He was the so-called “spokesperson” for the Sussex GOP, who when caught in a complete lie about what had transpired that night, fell back to the tried and true oldie of, “NO COMMENT”.

The following is a blog post, on the website of the radio station WGMD, where he is an on air personality. He has taken the time to whine about what took place at the GOP convention, but in a hit and run style demonstrates his bigotry, borderline racism, and complete lack of facts.

“The Delaware G.O.P. convention

Fittingly, the Delaware State Republican Committee held its annual convention inside the Dover Downs one-armed-bandit gambling hall on Saturday morning.  Well, okay, alright…it was in a large ballroom across the lobby from the slot machines, and the buffet breakfast provided was, in fact, excellent.

Sadly, things began to slide downhill rather rapidly the moment the convention was called to order.  Someone had decided to invite a rabbi to give the invocation, which would have been of no consequence whatsoever were it not for what he said, and how.  One delegate described those words as “making a mockery of Christian prayer”, which was, in my view, an accurate assessment.  After each nearly blasphemous entreaty of God, he said, “Amen, Baruch atah adonai, insh-allah” prayer doxologies for Christians, Jews and muslims.  The mohammedan reference was merely offensive to many who were there, as a Christian prayer may have been a capital offense in dozens of muslim countries.  At the same time we were being slapped across our faces with pleas to allah, many in attendance were told that Burgon Sealy, who murdered Trooper Corporal Stephen Ballard on Wednesday morning in Bear, was a muslim.  This has not been verified, but sources who would know said he was.

As if to further solidify the counter-cultural nature of the convention, the lady who sang the national anthem seemed to throw in everything except Ella Fitzgerald-style scat, which made The Star Spangled Banner almost unrecognizable.  Octave shifts and other odd, unpredictable quirks prevented the attendees from singing along.

It was Charlie Copeland’s last convention as chairman, and he’s always been a great guy with an impossible job to do.  Since Priscilla Rakestraw singlehandedly delivered a GOP majority in Leg Hall decades ago, few Republican state chairmen have had a more Sisyphean task, and, let’s be honest, numbers are numbers. With thirteen zip codes in Wilmington possessing more voters than the rest of the state combined, unless the Delaware GOP masters the art of the giveaway, this will be a Democrat-controlled state for quite a while.

Not that there’s all that much philosophical difference between New Castle County Republicans and their inner-city Democrat neighbors.  Conservatives call Mike Castle, for example, and other upstate GOP pols, “Republicans In Name Only”, and there are a lot of RINOs in Delaware.  If anyone ever wondered if a rhinoceros could kill an elephant, stop wondering.  The pachyderm bloodbath at the convention was no accident.

Mike Harrington ran unopposed for the chairmanship; he seems to be a good guy, but few know him that well.  Carol Bodine retained her post as party secretary by acclamation. My close friend Dennis Cini, a Wilmington tax accountant, is now the party treasurer, even though he didn’t appear at the convention.  Saturday was his grandson’s first holy communion and Dennis’ family’s needs come first, as they do with virtually all Republicans.  But that’s where the comity ended.

Kevin Wade, who has been my best friend in Delaware for six years, ran for vice-chairman of the Delaware GOP, and there had been no opposition to him until Saturday morning.  Emily Taylor, who is a very bright, educated and nice young woman from a New Castle Republican political family and has had success in managing Republican campaigns, was nominated by Sen. Colin Bonini from the floor, then seconded.  She beat Kevin fifteen minutes later in the only contested election that morning.  Wade, who has twice run for the U.S. senate as the Delaware Republican nominee, expended large amounts of his own personal capital to carry the GOP banner against Tom Carper and Chris Coons.  It’s one thing to throw one’s hat in the ring; orchestrating a campaign which was clearly intended to exclude a conservative from a senior party position is something else.  Nobody was as qualified, and nobody was as deserving, as Kevin was for vice-chairman.

A local blogger claims the ambush was engineered by some peripheral GOP grandstanders; to what end, nobody can say.  The Mike Castle contingent, replete with “never Trumpers”, certainly celebrated Taylor’s installation as vice-chair as much as they did Kevin Wade’s exclusion.  Whether this will benefit the party is open to debate; some ‘moderate’ GOP factions well north of the canal doubtless acted on the “woman card”.  They would have been well advised to play the “conservative card” first.  All they’ve done now is tell their most ardent team player to sit on the bench.

But, hey, that breakfast was awesome.”

WOW! Where do I start? I mean really? This guy is a piece of work. He pretends to be an intellectual. He acts as if he is knowledgeable. He acts as if he has his finger on the pulse of the political world. He acts as if he is a spokesperson for Christians. Well as we can see in this singular post, he is none of these things.

He begins by saying, “Sadly, things began to slide downhill rather rapidly the moment the convention was called to order.  Someone had decided to invite a rabbi to give the invocation,”.  Invite a Rabbi to give the invocation? What were they thinking? After all, everybody knows all Republicans are Christians, just ask Senator Dave Lawson, only Christian prayer in “our house”. Of course Duke Brooks could ask former Sussex GOP Chairman Jerry Wood, except he passed away, and he was Jewish. Duke Brooks could ask Representative Jeff Spiegelman, oh that’s right, he’s Jewish also. Maybe Rep. Spiegelman should make a formal statement about a member of the Sussex GOP being so disrespectful to the Jewish faith.

I am sure what truly bothered Mr. Brooks was the manner in which the rabbi prayed, “Amen, Baruch atah adonai, insh-allah”. These are three separate ways for each of the major religions to say thank you God. Of course Mr. Brooks has a long and ugly history of attacking the Islamic faith, but it seems as though he has now decided our Jewish brethren are also open to his little brained attacks.

He then attempts to tie Islam to the heinous murder of the State Trooper this past week by saying, “many in attendance were told that Burgon Sealy, who murdered Trooper Corporal Stephen Ballard on Wednesday morning in Bear, was a muslim”.  Now who was in attendance, who has ties to law enforcement, and who has demonstrated a hatred for Muslims? Hum?

But Mr. Brooks, or Doobie as his close friends know him, doesn’t stop with disparaging religions which do not meet his standards. Ha! Standards? Mr. Christian, the man who lives out-of-wedlock with his girlfriend, has the nerve to talk of religious principles?

But anyway, it seems as though he also didn’t care for the African-American woman who sang the National Anthem. Complaining about the odd time signature of her interpretation.  But I wonder why he chose this comparison, ” the lady who sang the national anthem seemed to throw in everything except Ella Fitzgerald-style scat”.

I will jump ahead here, and work backwards. The real issue Doobie had with the convention was what I have already written about in another post. He is upset his “best friend”, Kevin Wade was outmaneuvered in his bid for Vice-Chair of the state GOP.

But let us look at his justification for being upset. “Emily Taylor, who is a very bright, educated and nice young woman from a New Castle Republican political family and has had success in managing Republican campaigns,”. He then says, “Wade, who has twice run for the U.S. senate as the Delaware Republican nominee”.

So Doobie Brooks would rather have a man who ran twice, and lost both campaigns, to be vice-chair, rather than a young woman who he himself describes as having, “had success in managing Republican campaigns“. Smart guy, huh?

He also said, “expended large amounts of his own personal capital to carry the GOP banner against Tom Carper and Chris Coons.” Translation, “I can’t get anyone to give me money to run”.  Self funded campaigns are rarely successful, just ask Lacey Lafferty.

And the whine doesn’t stop there, he continues, “It’s one thing to throw one’s hat in the ring; orchestrating a campaign which was clearly intended to exclude a conservative from a senior party position is something else.” So the little brain comes up with the end all, a conspiracy. The mean old moderates in the GOP didn’t want a conservative in the seat. No Doobie, what the party didn’t want, was a ne’er-do-well who was only looking for a title in front of his name, if they wanted that, they would have kept Don Ayotte in the party. What they did want was a person who would work, who isn’t looking for elected office.

And now to the part where Doobie walks up to the line of being a real man, but can’t quite make it over it. “A local blogger claims the ambush was engineered by some peripheral GOP grandstanders”. The “local blogger” would be myself, and the “peripheral GOP grandstanders” would be my partner here at Delaware Right, Steve Grossman. But Doobie doesn’t have the guts to call us out by name. Coward.

I also find it very funny this “Johnny Come Lately” calls myself and Steve the “Mike Castle contingent”. When both Steve and I worked very hard in 2010 to remove Mike Castle. This demonstrates Mr. Brooks will say anything to reinforce his weak views.

I can’t pass this one up though, when he says, “She beat Kevin fifteen minutes later in the only contested election that morning.” Yes Doobie, it was a short election, but easy to remember.

And finally, what the hell is it about the 3 to 6 time slot at WGMD?

    Wasn’t Jean Dowding, the singer, the GOP candidate who ran in the 31st RD in 2016?

    You owe me a new laptop. I read the above and sprayed water all over my keyboard. You win the internet. But let’s face it, the perk of being a self-righteous hypocrite comes with drinking the good ol’ boy kool-aid.

    Pretends? Acts? Who are you to decide? Where were you “educated?”

    One thing is obvious; Brooks is a much better writer than you are. Thanks for the demonstration.

  4. Frank Knotts says:

    Rick, there is a difference between educated and intelligent. How about the hundreds of as you call them socialist democrats in DC. Many highly educated at some of the best schools in the nation. Does that make them intelligent or right in your mind?
    Let us be honest, you defend Doobie Brooks and praise his writing because he shares your hatred of Muslims and other people you and he deem inferior.

    An IQ test that measures “g” is a strong gauge of intelligence- did you grade Duke Brooks’ IQ test, or are you simply offering an opinion?

    How about the hundreds of as you call them socialist democrats in DC. Many highly educated at some of the best schools in the nation. Does that make them intelligent or right in your mind?

    Woodrow Wilson was highly intelligent- this can easily be discerned by a perusal of his writings on innumerable topics- and yet, quite often, he was wrong. I could cite hundreds of other examples.

    Let us be honest, you defend Doobie Brooks and praise his writing because he shares your hatred of Muslims and other people…

    Wrong again. Brooks’ writing style is better than yours because it is more polished and consistent. It has nothing to do with content. The subject could be a critique of “Dissertation Upon Roast Pig,” or any other esoterica.

    I recall a post over at DelawarePolitics a few years ago pointing out that Sherwood “Duke” Brooks had a number of open court cases in Maryland. I just checked the status and a few still are open but most have been closed. Makes for interesting reading.

    The bitter clinger talk radio guy is a crook, lol. I guess he uses people primitive tribal religious resentments to cover up his misdeeds

    How many bitter clingers shot their fellow man in Chicago over the past few years?

    The should change Chicago’s name to Slayersville.

    @Frank Knotts

    I’ve met more than a few self-serving imbecilic retards in my life, but you are the chief of them. Nearly the whole of the Republican Party has become a left of center band of thugs who are hell-bent on destroying anyone who has any common sense left.

    Pearls of wisdom from inside the pod? Yea right!

  11. DonAyotte says:

    I’m surprised you showed up to comment (This post has been edited due to outing. Frank Knotts), you can barely read and write.

  12. Honi Soit says:

    @Don Ayotte: “I’ve met more than a few self-serving imbecilic retards in my life….”

    Let’s try looking at this insult in a positive way. At least Ayotte doesn’t think you are idiotic. That would be worse than imbecilic.

    Idiot = 0-25 IQ
    imbecile = 26-50
    Moron = 51-70

  13. Frank Knotts says:

    Thank you Don Ayotte for participating in such an intellectual manner. I must warn you however, we have rules about outing other guest, even if they really don’t mind. Please abide by these rules while visiting. I do find it troubling, that you of all people would use the word “retard”.
    And to Honi Soit, I guess I’ll just have to try harder to become an idiot, but thanks for the break down.

  14. waterpirate says:

    Things must be slow over @ the mid atlantic dispatch. I missed the outing and possibly more intellectual name calling, oh well.

  15. KC Conservative says:

    Duke,

    Don’t blame others for Kevin Wade’s loss. It sounds like Hillary Clinton. It’s everyone else’s fault but his own. The campaign rises and falls on the candidate.

  16. mouse says:

    As soon as Kevin Wade’s platform became promoting fear of e-bola, it was obvious he was going to lose big. Without coercive manipulation through pandering to hate and fear, the republican party would only take 10% or less of the vote

  17. mouse says:

    The fact the Democratic party loses to a party of old white uneducated pandering bigots is testament of how lame it is too.

  18. Fish Bites says:

    “I’ve met more than a few self-serving imbecilic retards in my life”

    How often DOES Ipod hold meetings?

    Maybe you should skip a few.

  19. Darla says:

    I have a nephew that that has a question for Duke Brooks. He is wondering how that Duke’s eye sight was fine to get a helicopter pilot license,,, but the military refused to accept Duke, because of his BAD eye sight.?? From what my nephew has checked out, a helicopter license, eye sight test, license, is harder to get, than the military qualifications. So, can Duke give my nephew some advice ?

    Thanks
