Political Gossip and Tidbits Wandering About The Small Wonder That is Delaware-the 2/13/15 Edition

Seniors about to get jabbed by Markell by removing property tax discount. Bidding former Georgetown Mayor adieu and what the hell is a manufactured housing workshop?

Former Georgetown Mayor Passes On
laytonjohnsonRetired Brigadier General and Mayor of Georgetown, Layton Johnson, passed away on 2/12/15. He was Mayor of Georgetown from 1962-1988. Thank mine own Senator Brian Pettyjohn for this information and he requests that

Johnson’s family be kept in our prayers.

Condolences also to Senator Pettyjohn as we understand that Layton was a cherished mentor of his, Pettyjohn also once holding the position of Georgetown Mayor.

Eliminating the State School Discount for Seniors

It is the incessant rise in property taxes that has caused the most financial problems for retired citizens.

It’s not that senior citizens shouldn’t have to pay property taxes, no one is suggesting that. But if one thing has driven the home-owning seniors from Maryland and New Jersey to Delaware, specifically Sussex county, it’s the impossibly high property taxes levied in those two states until those on limited incomes must sell their homes and move.

Mine own case is a good example. Husband and I were paying, back in 2003 mind you, $1,800 annually in property taxes on our Maryland house. When we moved to Delaware, in a house worth a little less but not much, our property taxes dropped to $500 a year and that’s WITHOUT any kind of discount.

Things have changed over the years, of course,

Public Service Announcement-Delaware State Park Annual Fee Increases

We are to understand the following:

The new Delaware State Park fees go into effect on February 15. “Delaware resident annual passes will increase from $27 to $35.”

Since the seniors are losing their discount no state fees will need to be raised.

NO WAIT!

Matt Denn and this Lifting up of Delaware Communities

I am to understand that as a result of a class action suite against Bank of America and Citi group in regards to liftinupdelawarecommunitiesmattdennallegations these companies somehow caused some sort of Delaware financial crash, the funds from settlement are going to be used to:

Investing in people and neighborhoods, providing help to our high-poverty schools, and promoting affordable housing and development in economically impacted areas.

There will be an investment of almost $16 million in programs to help youth succeed, help with substance abuse disorder, help inmates being released from prisons….

Let me stop here.

Like the “War on Poverty” before it, this is just throwing money at the problem. It’s a feel good thing to give money to thieves and snakes and won’t help a damn thing.

Maybe they should use some of this cash to offset that senior property tax discount for which they say they have no money.

And let’s not forget this “affordable housing” thing going to get $10 million….economic development in Low Income Areas.

This looks like every politico with a brother-in-law will get some of these funds while the old people must move for the excessive property tax.

Okay, I exaggerate but this money is going to make nothing better in Delaware, do not be fooled.

Second Amendment Assault Continues

I cam across this article from the 9-12 Patriot’s Facebook page and thought Mr. Nicholson did a great job of illustrating how dedicated these nut jobs are who want to take our guns.

From Martin Nicholson:
It’s Time to Step It Up Again to Protect Our Second Amendment Rights In Delaware:
Saturday I attended another Delaware Coalition Against Violence and they were really pushing this “Gun Violence” agenda. Normally it wouldn’t be a big deal and I only expected about 20 or so people to show up. However, there were better than 60 in this place and they were seriously organized. Church leaders, MD’s, counselors, pastors and even Ashley Biden was there again. They are getting better at this and sending the message to our leaders about tougher gun legislation. And as most of us know, Matt Denn is playing law maker and pushing for some very draconian bills in Dover and he has the The News journal supporting him in his cause.

They are determined to take away the guns of law-abiding citizens while throwing money to buy more guns at the thugs in Wilmington.

They’ve got to be stopped.

A Manufactured Housing Workshop?

I worked for an owner of several manufactured housing parks here in Sussex county and know the issues with same.

Beginning with the fact that once one places their manufactured home on someone else’s property, one must pay a land use fee to that land-owner.

It ain’t rocket science.

Of course one will get old with their manufactured home being their precious living quarters and costs of landscaping, outdoor lighting and snow clearing rise, causing the landowner to raise his or her fees.

It ain’t rocket science.

Then the folks get all riled up and join some kind of group to complain about the evil landowner who should be STOPPED from raising rental fees like no restaurant owner or movie theater entrepreneur or Dunkin’ Donuts owner is never dictated to as to rates they can set.

It don’t work that way.

Now we are having a workshop on manufactured housing sponsored

Please mark your calendar for the Attorney General Office’s Manufactured Housing Workshop in Sussex County on Monday, February 23rd at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Orchard Fire Hall.

Why is the Attorney General sponsoring such a thing? Is there some kind of huge demand for manufactured housing workshops?

I am going to be there because this is no good and Sussex county will suffer the most from caps on rent on manufactured housing park owners.

@Pat Fish: “It’s not that senior citizens shouldn’t have to pay property taxes, no one is suggesting that.”

Taxes for your property on Buck Run in Georgetown dropped from $589.80 in 2009 to $212.14 in 2010 because of discounts applied. And even more since: Your bill in 2014 was just $201.30, which you paid in full and on time.

But then there’s the property that you and your daughter jointly bought in August 2013. You know, the one in Georgetown on Fawn Lane. County records show that you two haven’t paid the 2014 taxes of $533.78, due on September 30. As of this month, you’re looking at interest and penalties of $28.42. That brings your tax bill up to $562.20.

You might want to look into this, yon blogger, lest nigh poster think worse of you.

If you’re going to post personal information under the guise of “public” information, at least have the guts to sign your name to it.

    Pathetic coward.

  3. Hoit Soit says:

Details pertaining to property taxes IS public information. It is not protected or confidential. Anyone can go to the county website and get this information.

You ask me to use my real name. I have no idea if you, Rick, are using your real name. And even if you are, it’s hardly useful in identifying you. So let’s have full disclosure on your part before you demand it of others.

  4. Rick says:

Ask Frank if Rick is my real name. Of course, I don’t sneak around looking for “public” information in a lame effort to embarrass someone.

You are a pathetic “liberal” coward.

  5. Honi Soit says:

What I posted certainly is relevant to Fish’s posting. Given that she nor you nor anyone else has disputed its veracity, I’m gonna infer that it also is true. And until you attach family name to your surname, you’re just as anonymous to me as I am to you.

  6. The vast majority of weld imperfections that are triggered by inappropriate TIG weld procedure are connected to arc length.

During this procedure, the gas heats up so much
that when the plasma jet touches the metal work piece, it literally travels through it and breaking it apart.

Although an incredible powerful cutting machine, a thermal dynamics plasma cutter pak 5xt cutter can also do terrible damage to the human body.

  7. Honi Soit says:

I’d bet the farm that “Thermal Dynamics Plasma Cutter Pak 5 xt” is NOT the poster’s real name!

  8. Rick says:

    I’m sure you’re right.

Then again, he’s not posting other peoples’ neighborhood and tax information on a blog, is he?

No matter. I’m sure you’ve been a sneaky little weenie all your life.

  9. mouse says:

The thieves and snakes took all the money and fradulently repackaged junk mortgages with it as CDOs and credit default swaps. When it blew up, the taxpayer bailed out the parasitic leaches on Wall St. who used the money for 10 figure boneses to the maggots who caused the problem.

  10. mouse says:

We should celebrate gun violence as our national heritage

Got something to say? Go for it!
