The National Scene-Political and Cultural Tidbits from Across the Fruited Plains. The 11/5/15 Edition.

Nothing earth shaking but some looks into the culture change, political atmosphere and submarine sandwiches that are way too short. Come in for some smiles and good reading.

I love to write about local politics but meanwhile national stuff is happening that requires my thought and input. I try to pick subjects that are indicative of a cultural attack or change, or political topics that encapsulate the national scene. Throw in some irony and I’m all set.

Go Get ’em! Studies show Subways subs too short!

Heh.

Well Subway hired a child molester as its spokesnoid and after that you’d think Subway couldn’t go any lower.

Now we find out that their footlong subs are only 11 inches.

A pox on their house.
subwaysub

The whole suit was sparked when an Australian teenager posted a photo on Subway Australia’s Facebook page showing a Subway Footlong measuring only 11 inches. The court documents show the company will now work to ensure it’s Footlong and 6-inch subs are true to their names, measuring a full foot, and six inches, respectively

Where did all the Haiti money go?

I heard tell, been a while, that Hillary’s brother made out right well in Haiti, buying some kind of gold mine or some such. For sure the Clinton Foundation made a fortune on the Haitian earthquake.
Huffpost.com

In late 2011, the Red Cross launched a multimillion-dollar project to transform the desperately poor area, which was hit hard by the earthquake that struck Haiti the year before. The main focus of the project — called LAMIKA, an acronym in Creole for “A Better Life in My Neighborhood” — was building hundreds of permanent homes.
Today, not one home has been built in Campeche. Many residents live in shacks made of rusty sheet metal, without access to drinkable water, electricity or basic sanitation. When it rains, their homes flood and residents bail out mud and water.
The Red Cross received an outpouring of donations after the quake, nearly half a billion dollars.

Now we are to understand the Red Cross too collected a ton of money and built what? SIX HOUSES?

Folks, some very greedy people in this country made out like a bandit on the Haitian earthquake. The government of Haiti is hopelessly corrupt and add some corrupt Americans and boom, get rich on the backs of the poor .

I don’t know how they can sleep at night.

The Body Slammed Student

This story has been all over the place this past week and I don’t know just what is the truth.

GOPUSA News

Sheriff Leon Lott said one video of Deputy Ben Fields interacting with the student at Spring Valley High School shows the 18-year-old senior resisting.dr10.28.15natltidbitsbodyslammedstudent

He said if the student had not disrupted the math class, the deputy would not have been brought into the classroom and the incident would not have started.

“When the officer puts his hands on her initially, she reaches up and she pops the officer with her fist,” he said.

So the girls sits in class and uses her cell phone and this is okay?

Ted Cruz accuses McConnell of being a Democrat

It sure has not done the Republicans much good giving them control of the Senate.

We have Mumbles MCConnell, Senate Majority leader, pursuing the Democratic agenda.

Washington Examiner

Cruz, a Tea Party conservative, frequently bucks Senate GOP leaders and has on at least one other occasion criticized McConnell in a Senate floor speech.

But late Thursday, he took on McConnell with renewed antipathy, using pie charts to demonstrate that the Kentucky Republican has bolstered the Democratic agenda rather than conservative goals during his ten-month tenure.

“Why is a Republican majority leader fighting to accomplish the priorities of the Democratic minority?” Cruz asked.

This Blogger likes Cruz but I hear tell the Senate can’t stand him.

This Transgender nonsense

But of course if I had a student in Chicago’s failing schools I’d have at the top of my priority list that the transgender in the schools get special privileges.

<Dailysignal.com/a>

school district near Chicago, Palatine 211, provides numerous accommodations for transgender students. The district calls the students by requested names, honors selected gender (including allowing them to play on the sports teams of the gender they identify as belonging to), and permits them to use single-sex bathrooms, since stalls ensure privacy.

But the federal government has decided that the district is still guilty of violating Title IX, the law prohibiting sex-based discrimination, over certain locker room restrictions.

“District 211 is not excluding transgender students from their gender-identified locker room,” said district superintendent Daniel Cates in a statement. “Though our position has been inaccurately reported, a transgender student may use his or her gender-identified locker room simply by utilizing individual measures of privacy when changing clothes or taking showers.”

Here’s what I say without hesitation. If those crazy bureaucrats in DC think that Americans are going to sit back and allow perverts in the bathroom and locker rooms of their female children, they need to think again.

Keeping eye on this story because it IS possible to push the American people too far.

George Herbert Walker Bush Slams Cheney, Rumsfeld in new book

Man, the Bushes are making waves everywhere, you think?

Washington Post

Jon Meacham’s “Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush,” due out later this month, offers the nonagenarian’s candid, critical comments about his son’s closest advisers, including former vice president Dick Cheney and secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld, according to news reports prior to its formal release.

Bush Sr.’s toughest talk was reserved for Rumsfeld, whom he called “an arrogant fellow.”

destnyandpower

“I think he served the president badly,” Bush told Meacham, Peter Baker of the New York Times reported, quoting the book. He added: “I’ve never been that close to him anyway. … There’s a lack of humility, a lack of seeing what the other guy thinks. He’s more kick ass and take names, take numbers. I think he paid a price for that.” (Rumsfeld resigned as secretary of defense in 2006 after conditions in Iraq deteriorated. He declined

Well there goes any loyalty we thought the Bushes might have.

Paid Patriotism
Not that I ever thought about it, but I don’t suppose those big shows featuring the military are provided free by the NFL.

A government oversight report released Wednesday by Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake offers new details about how the Department of Defense paid professional sports teams and leagues for patriotic displays honoring American soldiers.
The report expands on one that became public last May and resulted in changes to the National Defense Authorization Act for 2016, prohibiting the expenditures and calling on leagues and teams to donate the money to organizations that support the military, veterans and their families.
“What we take issue with,” wrote Flake, who, like McCain, is a Republican from Arizona, “is the average fan thinking teams are doing this on behalf of the military.”

Still and so, the NFL has a right to make money on what is essentially a big commercial. Consider how many soldiers are recruited via football advertisement versus, say, commercials on “The View”.

I do not respond to comments on my posts. I certainly have no problem with such commentary and, indeed, encourage it. But I’ve written my piece and I don’t want to argue it further.

Please feel free to email me at patfish1@aol.com if you want to send me a special comment or have any ideas or information you want to share.

NEXT : Well I guess I’ll have the result of my court case tomorrow as they tear down my fence and steal my land. If you don’t hear from me for a couple days I might be in jail. Send bail money!

  1. Rick says:

“Why is a Republican majority leader fighting to accomplish the priorities of the Democratic minority?” Cruz asked.

This is a good question. The Mitch McConnell-John Boehner-Karl Rove types told us that if we elected a Republican majority in the Senate, the GOP majority could finally subvert the Omaba agenda. We did but they didn’t.

The simple fact of the matter is that Omaba should be impeached. He circumvented the Senate by enacting a treaty with Iran in clear violation of the US Constitution. He endorses the concept of “sanctuary cities,” a position which is essentially compatible with the theory of “nullification,” as advocated by John C. Calhoun in the 19th Century and derided by “liberals” ever since. US immigration laws were codified by Congress and signed by the President. They are not open to negotiation.

By not requiring “sanctuary cities” to enforce federal laws as they receive largesse from the government and by binding the US to a treaty with Iran without the advise and consent of the Senate, Omaba has violated his oath of office, …”to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution…”

And the chicken s#!t GOP “establishment” does nothing.

This Blogger likes Cruz but I hear tell the Senate can’t stand him.

Well, true conservatives like Colburn and Sessions like him. And Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz, a lifelong “liberal,” calls Cruz the most brilliant law student he ever taught. Obviously, Cruz is indeed smart enough to see that Our Little Red Star is trampling the constitution, and he has the responsibility- and backbone- to talk about it.

TEA Party aligned conservatives helped to get rid of crybaby Boehner. Now, it’s time to deep-six the pathetic, weak “Moderate Mitch.”

Got something to say? Go for it!
