9/11 Open Thread

World Trade Center  It has been fourteen years since our nation was attacked by terrorist using planes to crash into both buildings of The World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania.  For one shining moment following that tragedy the American people and their leaders realized that we are all Americans and we held each other, we cried for those lost, and we demanded justice.

Unfortunately that was short-lived, it did not take long for some on both sides of the political spectrum to attempt to take advantage of the tragedy. Our nation today may never have been more divided,  since the Civil War. Not based on economic issues, not even on racial issues, though that is a growing concern.

No our nation is divided by ideology, with neither side willing to see the viewpoint of the other. I feel this is a direct result of 9/11. That was the turning point, where lines were drawn and lines  were drawn in the imaginary sand, of who is more conservative, who is more progressive. And this, in my view is a victory for the terrorist.

I’ll leave it at that, and leave this as an open thread. Take a moment today to remember, that though the scars have healed over, and the memories have begun to fade, there are people, millions of people in this nation, and around the world today, who were directly affected by the events of 9/11, who for them, the pain is as fresh and as real as that clear blue September morning fourteen years ago.

Maybe, just maybe, we could try to remember what it was like following that day, when Americans were just Americans, and we could hold our collective hands for a moment of prayer, and lend our thoughts and compassion to those people today.

May God Bless America.

I am getting ready to leave for a special 9-11 Memorial mass. This was arranged by my church’s new Pastor, Father Flowers, also known as “The Tea Party” priest. He tells me he will be attending the upcoming Sussex county GOP meeting, this Monday, at 7pm, at the Georgetown Cheer Center.

After the mass we will be sharing light refreshments as we hear a talk given by a NY cop who survived that day.

How many other Pastors, priests and clergy out there are holding a special Memorial mass? Cause this is the FIRST time we had such a ting in our parish.

Oh, and before, we will stand and salute the flag ON OUR BRAND NEW FLAGPOLE!

Patriotism and love of country is not dead.

Will report back later on how it goes.

What insipid drivel. A “shining moment” would have been for the American people to realize the chickens of our unconditional support for zionism and routine wars on muslim nations had, inevitably, come home to roost.

Thank you Delacrat, we can always count on you.

I wanted to post a link to this video from Steve Scheibner, who was originally scheduled to be the First Officer on Flight 11, the first plane to hit the WTC. Steve lives in Maine, but vacations in Lewes, and he and his family attend my church when in the area. His is a remarkable story of 9/11 from a perspective most have not considered. Hope you enjoy it!

Well I’m done with all the activity today and am now reflecting.

First, the 9-11 mass went really well, nothing terribly new except that a mass DID happen when one did not happen on this date before today. Or if it did, to be fair, I did not know about it.

Second, let me say it….somebody’s hairdresser’s, brother-in-law’s, barber told someone I happened to meet at the recent Delaware state fair…and….whew….told me that Father Tom was called The Tea Party Priest.”

He does not, in fact, call himself that.

    But I rather like it.

It’s more his dedication to patriotism that might bring that appellation upon him and it’s certainly not an insult.

The most intriguing thing about this mass today, and yes I’m going to write about it cause goodness, he said it in front of about 500 people….was Father Tom’s homily.

He did a great job, as is always the case, but his subject matter I found a bit startling.

For he informed us all that Islam is a false religion. He told us that the Prophet Mohammad was one of either three things: a fake prophet….a mistaken prophet…..or a prophet who really believed his lies.

Mohammad believed that the Holy Trinity, for example, was the Father, the Son and the Virgin Mary.

There was more narrative and I’ll admit one pastor’s homily on this most observant of days, isn’t anything particularly earth shaking.

But that bit about openly declaring the Prophet Mohammad and his religion to be a total false religion …..

    well anyway….I’m still pondering it.

Frankly I find it a bit scary.

    Routine wars? Which ones?

Pretty sure Delacrat is referring to the Crusades. That has to be the Republican’s fault too.
