Patriotism/Liberty

flag  Once again it is Memorial Day weekend, this is the time, once a year, we take time out of our busy schedules to remember the fallen, who gave their lives to protect us, and our Liberties, with hot dogs and a trip to the beach.   Pardon my sarcasm, but if that offended you, you may want to stop reading right now.

It is quite obvious many citizens among us understand the unequalled sacrifice, which many have made to secure our freedoms, the family members left behind, who will never hear the words “I love you” again from fathers, brothers, mothers and sisters.

Our nation has a long, proud line of heroes stretching back to the founding of this nation. People who left their homes and families, to protect the homes and families of those they would never know. Some of these heroes went for the glory, some for the adventure, some went because they understood the cost of not going, and the loss of Liberty, and some went out of a sense of patriotism.

This weekend, take a moment and pray for them all, and those they left behind.

Unfortunately, in our nation we have come to a place in time, when the idea of patriotism is confused for Liberty. Our nation, has lost sight of what we truly stand for, as a nation, and what those who fought and died, did so for. It is very easy to eat your hot dogs and hamburgers on red, white and blue paper plates. flag plateOr maybe you can wipe the mustard from your chin with a U.S. Flag napkin.

flag napkin  Is this patriotism? or is it disrespectful to our fallen heroes? After all, when we are done smearing baked beans around on these plates, don’t we throw them in the trash?

So if decorating our picnics with these items is a show of patriotism, then what is this?

walk-on-flag-on-ground  Obviously this will anger some, but should it anger you anymore than the plates and napkins? Or anymore than the politicians who incorporate the Flag into their campaign signs?  flag lacey

Or the politicians who wear the flag to demonstrate their patriotism.

bob russ  Is this disrespectful, or patriotic? After all, there have been some very “patriotic” organizations who have waved the flag, and spoken of Liberty, like this one.

kkk flag Are these patriots simply because they wave the flag?

What about this young man?  burning flag Again, obviously many would say this is not a patriotic act, but is it not Liberty? Is it not exactly what our fallen heroes gave their lives for? Does this act dishonor those who died to defend his right to do this, or is it the perfect example of what they fought for?

I consider myself a patriotic person, unlike some, I do not believe this automatically makes me a patriot. I believe the United States is the freest, greatest nation in the history of the world. I believe this, not because of the flag, but because of the fact that so many men and women have fought and died to protect, not just the symbol of the flag, but for what it actually stands for, Liberty, and Liberty is not a symbol, it is an ideal. Much like pornography, “I may not be able to describe it, but I know it when I see it”.

And much in the same way, many people confuse religion with faith, people confuse patriotism with Liberty. The same as your faith is not proven by the size of the steeple, of the church you attend, neither is your Liberty protected by the height of your flag pole.

And though the majority of citizens never put on the uniform and stand a watch, it is the responsibility of every citizen to protect the Liberties of every other citizen. Not through intimidation, or violence. But by having a true understanding of what Liberty is.

Understanding these people, black lives matter have the same rights as these people, tea rally, and these people, trump rally 3 and these.Nazi flag

You see, Liberty is not always beautiful, and it certainly is not always about patriotism. Sometimes it’s ugly, and mean, it is a fickle mistress, who cares little for the color of your skin, or the book of faith you choose to hold to. And if we desire Liberty for ourselves, we must be willing to protect the Liberty of those we most vehemently disagree with, to fight for their rights, so they might defend ours when the need arises.

You see, the truest form of patriotism in my view, is not a flag, it’s not stomping down the guy burning the flag, it’s not some nationalist rhetoric of “Making America Great Again”, it’s recognizing it is our differences, or disagreements, our ability to voice our discontent with our government and our fellow citizens, which is the real tribute to this great nation.

So, this weekend, when you are sitting in your backyard, or on the beach, or in the park listening to a politician talk of how great this nation is, and about the sacrifice made by others, remember, we are all on the frontlines to protect Liberty, and this nation. We fight, by allowing all to share in the Liberty we hold so dear.

God Bless America, its people, and the many who have gone before us, so that we might follow.

Unless you’re the current occupant of the White House, who honors the Japanese “victims” of Hiroshima. Funny, I thought Japan started the war. Silly me.

The “liberties” really being protected are your voting machine’s “liberty” to vote for the lesser or greater evil or your employer’s “liberty” to offshore your job.

Typical “liberal” hate-America view of the United States. Why don’t you move to Venezuela, Cuba or some other Socialist workers paradise?

Thanks for posting an asinine comment, emblematic of the “liberal” contempt for America.

  4. Henry says:

For a person who spent his youth getting high and drunk not sacrificing yourself for the common good of our country by volunteering in our country’s military forces why in hell’s name would any sane person read your BS.

I stopped reading third way through. Your fine one to talk about the meaning or motives of Patriotism. Mr. Quaran

  5. Honi Soit says:

Henry, if–as you say–no sane person would read Frank’s postings but you admit to reading 1/3 of his current posting, then can we infer that you are well on the way to being mentally deranged?

  6. Frank Knotts says:

Well Henry, since the only reason you know how I spent my youth is because I have been honest about it, because I saw the mistakes I made, and have attempted to be a better person, so your childish attacks mean little.
And since we have no idea who you are, we cannot with any reasonable amount of accuracy know how you spent your youth, whether or not you served, or if like myself you spent it high and drunk.
What we can judge from your own words here, is that you make your decisions based on one third of the information available, we can only assume this is how you decide who to vote for as well.
I would ask you to read the entire piece. Maybe you will, after the third or fourth time through, be able to see the real message here.

  7. Honi Soit says:

Delacrat, Before acting on Rick’s invitation to move to a socialist paradise outside of the USA, you might want first to consider Alaska, which features two socialist principles: public ownership and a basic income for all residents (after a 1-year waiting period). In 2015, everyone got $2,072!

  8. Frank Knotts says:

Oh Henry! I almost forgot to address you comment about my reading the Quran. Yes I am reading the Quran, I am at least 2/3 through, of course you would have stopped reading by now. I on the other hand choose to read it in its entirety, so that when I speak of it, I have at least a working knowledge of what I am speaking of. Are you afraid to find out that what you believe about Islam and the Quran is not true?

  9. Henry says:

Voting for Trump just to piss you off.

  10. delacrat says:

    Rick

According your ad hominem argument the disregard it deserves, why do you think job offshoring and machine automated “elections” are worth dying for ?

  11. Matador says:

    Frankie:

If you keep it up, pretty soon, you will be ordained as a Mullah, build a mosque in Bridgeville, shriek “Allah Akbar” from the rooftops, proclaim your miserable self as leader of the Islamic Republican Party of Delaware, join ISIS and wage Jihad against you perceived enemies.

What else can we expect from this scummy cyberterrorist excuse for a blog site?

WE always knew that you are full of Shiite.

  12. Frank Knotts says:

Ah, and now Matador attempts to insult me once again, this time by using my family name Frankie, fail.
By the way Matador, if you keep it up, you may one day pull your head out of your backside.

  13. Fish Bites says:

It’s amazing how agitated people can get merely because Frank is reading a book.

Of course, maybe it is understandable that the idea of reading a book is unnerving to certain kinds of people.

“emblematic of the “liberal” contempt for America.”

….says the cheerleader for secession. Rick, the only person regularly seen in these comments expressing contempt for America and a desire to withdraw from it, is you.

  15. Rick says:

delacrat: According your ad hominem argument the disregard it deserves…

But you didn’t “disregard” it- you responded. Another mindless “liberal” contradiction.

… why do you think job offshoring and machine automated “elections” are worth dying for ?

On Memorial Day, all you can think of is this crap? How about the Bill of Rights, the freedom of movement-including the freedom to leave the country- our high standard of living, the opportunity to learn, build, create, excell…

Why do you Socialist-Democrats hate America? No wonder you voted for a Marxist.

  16. mouse says:

Hate America lol. You people sure can delude yourselves with your parroted rhetoric from talk radio. The sad part is that you people are too dimwitted to realize you shill for the people who are working against your own kids just to satisfy your primitive tribal urges

  17. mouse says:

Why do you hate America Rick? Are you a trader? I bet you’re a Muslim too

  18. mouse says:

Knowledge, books, science and critical analysis are all threats to the talk radio educated ilk and the 1% class behind the propaganda that you people are so easily manipulated by

  19. Rick says:

How they “celebrated” Memorial Day in Chicago. From Breitbart….

An incredible 66 people were shot, although just six were killed, over Chicago’s Memorial Day weekend. The carnage pushed the number of gunshot victims well above 1,500 this year in this Democratic-run city.

One of the youngest victims was a 15-year-old girl who was killed on the city’s famed Lake Shore Drive while a passenger in a car driven by a known gang member.

Teenager Veronica Lopez, a resident of the Northwest Side, was killed at 1:30 AM Saturday morning while in the car of a 22-year-old man who police say has a history of gang membership. He was also shot and is now listed in stable condition. Police say he drove himself and the girl to the hospital after the shooting.

The shootings began over a dozen hours earlier on Friday midday — eight people were shot and two killed between 11.00 AM and midnight.

The blood continued to flow all weekend, with victims in their teens and early 20s dominating the mounting tally….

Like most major cities, the Chicago government is run almost exclusively by Socialist-Democrats. The “liberals” created- and maintain- this horrific carnage.

The “liberals” tell us that the vast majority of law-abiding citizens should abandon their God-given right to protect themselves, their families and their property- and their Second Amendment rights- simply because inner-city black miscreants can’t stop killing each other with impunity.

Sorry, “liberals.” If you want to confiscate guns from Americans who have never committed a crime in their lives, good luck. You’ll need it.

    “Socialism is Theft !”

  20. Kurt J says:

Actually Memorial Day is to honor those who died in combat serving their Country. If you want to put forth a person who is abusing the day how about Joseph Robinette Biden and his gala for his son who did not die in service to his country and who in fact spent his entire military career in Air Conditioning as a legal type, hardly heroic. As for Ms. Lafferty using the flag in her campaign, I don’t like it but I also don’t like incumbent Politicians who get their campaigns subsidized by the taxpayer. Joe Biden is still many, many levels below Ms.. Lafferty on the Integrity Elevator

  21. Matador says:

The real reason that Mullah Frankie is stuck reading the Quran is that he is not intelligent enough to read the Bhagavad Gita.

  22. Fish Bites says:

“On Memorial Day, all you can think of is this crap? How about the Bill of Rights…”

Given the comments about Muslims here, apparently Freedom of Religion is off the table.

  23. Frank Knotts says:

Matador, I am honest enough to admit I have not read the Gita, not sure how it would relate to Abrahamic faith, and since that is my personal interest, I have so far stuck to the three religions concerning Abraham and the progression of the One God.
But there is always the future, who knows.
But if you would like to fill us in on the Gita here, feel free, please enlighten us.

  24. Henry says:

Why humor such a sick person by responding! Anybody that agrees with you are as sick as you.

  25. High-ranking Republican says:

    Knotts:

No Republican of consequence takes a purple RINO like you seriously. It’s bad enough that you are a moron, a liar and a rat, but you and your rotten buddies are closet Democrats working for Hillary Clinton.

  26. Fish Bites says:

Republicans of consequence? Like the ones that hold statewide or federal offices? Or the ones who pride themselves on the ability to alienate others?

  27. Frank Knotts says:

High Ranking Republican, thank you for demonstrating the mental capacity of the far right fringe. Here to hoping if Trump wins, America survives.

  28. fightingbluehen says:

Health insurance rates in Delaware are set to go up another 20% this year.

    What a disaster.

The insurance companies were sold a bill of sale that implied that forcing everybody to buy health insurance would be a benefit to the insurance companies.
Too bad this plan has failed. The deductible payment for services is unrealistic. Young healthy people are just paying the penalty tax, and the people who are participating are using more resources than expected.

Obamacare has been propped up from the beginning by subsidies, and now those subsidies are drying up.

  29. fightingbluehen says:

Another violent Democrat funded rent-a-mob has been unleashed at a Trump rally in California.

There seems to be a pattern forming at places like political rallies as well as college campuses, and that pattern is to silence opposition with disruption.
The Democrat machine seems like it has stepped it up, and it will now go to all lengths in this election cycle… violence not excluded.

Trump already has the nomination. For “safety reasons”, I suggest that the Republicans cancel the convention, and purchase many hours of air time on the networks instead.
There, Trump can go on and make a long speech explaining to the American people how the Democrats have succeeded in suppressing the free exchange of ideas through violent tactics resembling that of a third world nation.

  30. Rick says:

Trump should suggest that some adult “amateur baseball” teams start attending- wearing their uniforms and carrying bats. These “liberal” a-holes need to be taught a lesson.

It’s ’68 and ’72 all over again. “The whole world is watching.” Yeah, that’s right. We’ll see how the people of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida and Virginia respond to seeing left wing agitators and violent professional “protesters” in action. These miscreants will “help” Hillary as much as Abbie Hoffman and company “helped” HHH and McGovern.

  31. delacrat says:

“Another violent Democrat funded rent-a-mob…” – frightenedbluehen

You don’t know they were “Democrat funded”.

  32. Rick says:

    They are Soros-funded. And he’s a Socialist-Democrat.

It’s time to fight these maggots in the streets.

  33. fightingbluehen says:

They want the Trump supporters to retaliate. Then they can get the money shot, and create the narrative that an outsider like Trump is detrimental. It’s a suckers trap.

  34. Rick says:

If you like to smile after getting hit in the face, fine. I don’t.

If you like your right to peaceably assemble violated by intimidation and violence, fine. I don’t.

Since the police are incapable of handling violent, flag burning maggots, maybe it’s time for the people to take care of the problem themselves. Failure to act is complicity.

  35. delacrat says:

When from the safety of his Secret Service detail, Trump incites violence…

    http://www.delawareright.com/the-good-old-days/

it’s not surprising that people are incited to violence.

  36. fightingbluehen says:

People don’t realize how desperate the Clinton campaign is to turn black people away from Trump.

  37. Rick says:

    Trump incites violence…

You can’t “incite violence” against yourself.

I saw the video. A woman was surrounded by a feral mob and hit in the head by an egg. Another man was just walking, and some coward hit him on the temple with an object from behind. American flags were burned, Mexican flags were waved.

The “peace loving” socialist left in this country are nothing but violent, common scum- and those who should know better, but defend them anyway, are worse.

If the police- under orders from “liberal” mayors- won’t defend people’s right to peaceably assemble, then the people under threat of violence must start defending themselves, with an armed militia.

Got something to say? Go for it!
