Say It Ain’t So Joe!!

Is it possible that Bill Colley has been replaced at WGMD?

Well according to a Facebook post on Mr. Colley’s page, that is exactly the case.

One has to wonder after all the bragging by his rabid supporters about how great he was doing back in his old-time slot, why would management move him to the “NEWS” department? And it would seem possibly off air.

Here is the posting as related to me;

“I’d like to ask you all to treat Doug Beatty well as my on-air replacement. I’m still working at the same place but will now have a new role. Doug is a good guy. The past six-and-a-half-years were a joy. I shall miss the daily conversation.”

So along with the move out of morning drive slot not so long ago, and now this, does this represent a major change at the ownership level in its attitude about how the on air personalities behave, both on air and off.

Or might this foretell even bigger changes at WGMD, like all music all the time?

I almost forgot, one cannot discount the fact that Mr. Colley has been going head to head with Jared Morris from Delaware 105.9. The two are a contrast  in styles. While Mr. Colley is known for his temper and mistreatment of callers, Mr. Morris is known for being fair and open to discussion. Maybe there is a lesson for all of us to be learned here.

Except, I don’t think they broadcast in stereo.

  2. Frank Knotts says:

FBH, I believe, if I remember correctly that the station has that ability, they just didn’t because what was the point for talk, and I believe it takes more power to generate in stereo. I could be wrong on all counts though.

  3. Mike Protack says:

I think Bill is great, I wish him the best.

  4. Laffter says:

I whole- heatedly agree with Mike Protack

Bill IS great, OFF THE AIR

and even better, OUT OF THIS STATE”

  5. Frank Knotts says:

It definitely changes the landscape of talk radio in Sussex. For the better? Well Doug Beatty is just a different flavor of nut filled rhetoric. He is more entertaining than Colley, but this means that DA and Wolf will have an even larger stage to dance the dance of the crazy on.

  6. Harry Whittington says:

WGMD is going to put a man that newsmakers in Delaware don’t trust, don’t like and won’t talk to in the news department? Their new station motto should be “All crazy, all of the time.”

I listen to the radio often while I work, and I always enjoyed listening to Colley, even if I didn’t agree with him on some issues.
Sometimes though, I noticed that he would go into hyper agenda mode, and stretch or omit certain facts about candidates, especially the closer we got to election time.

When Doug Beatty first started, it seemed like he was stuck in personal agenda mode with the whole Dover lynching, iPOD , and Dr Issa programing, but his learning curve seems to be steep.

Beatty is a natural entertainer, and I believe that, with the help of his father’s name recognition, and his non partisan edgy, often comedic delivery, he could take his show to new heights for WGMD. Maybe even into syndication.

  8. Henlopen Guy says:

It is so Joe! Beatty will get the real news out and you won’t like it Ftank, (Lesbiman) but nobody cares much what you think.
Talk radio is not edited by Frank Lesbiman Knotts and for that little bit of God’s wisdom, the world is a safer place.
What the listening public likes about Beatty, is that he is not afraid to cover news that even the NewUrinal won’t cover. That means covering issues that concerns Americans, Delawareans and Sussex Countians.
So, Frank, keep looking in the mirror and admiring yourself, while the real world moves forward. The world wouldn’t miss you if you stopped blogging and gave everybody a break.

    Frank:
Posting for the anonymous Doug Beatty

Thank you for the post and the free advertisement.
You are offered an open invitation to come on WGMD and go head to head with Mr. Beatty, if you think you can do it better.
Mr. Beatty will make sure that management is listening in case they want to offer you a job.

The “real news” like the story of the young man in Dover being lynched by not one but two of his own belts after leaving a suicide message for his mother? Oh, sorry, Beatty leaves those facts out of the story when he’s using it for propaganda.

That’s just what WGMD needs, another full time propagandist/liar for the afternoon drive.

Mr. Morris is known for his expertise on American Idol and Lost. When it comes to politics, he is lost.

Of course, as Sussex grows with an influx of liberals fleeing other states, the listening demographic changes, too. Unfortunately, so will the composition of Sussex representation in the State House and County Council. Make no mistake, they are coming, and they bring their liberal baggage with them. Take Lewes and Rehoboth, the epicenters of out-of-state influx; how many conservatives do you see being elected there? Well, the cancer will surely spread.

I have no idea what is going on at GMD. I haven’t been listening very often, but when I do, it seems like the number of callers has dwindled. I doubt if this has anything to do with Colley, because the same thing has happened in the morning. Perhaps GMD has just run it’s course- in time, maybe they can become a new NPR station, and Frank will be happy.

I will miss Mr. Colley. What a horrible mistake.

  13. Anonymoustoo says:

I predicted Billy’s demise and was right on target. Listening to his creepy followers call in was evidence he attracted the loonies. I will miss Billy’s fake laugh, cartoonish behavior and childish breakdowns. Billy does not represent the views of rational, conservatives!!! Bye bye Billy!

  14. Frank Knotts says:

So the freaks show up to defend the freaks, soooooo surprised!!!!
Rick, I don’t count you as the freaks by the way, as for Jared’s show, well no it is not all politics all the time, but when he touches on politics or other serious topics, what I like is he knows how to get out of the way of conversation and allow the callers to have one, unlike Colley who would shut down any dissention to his agenda driven show or topics.
Jared is fun to listen to, as is Doug Beatty by the way, I just don’t happen to agree with him most of the time, but that’s okay, he doesn’t agree with me either.
As for the puppets, well it is what it is. And if Mr. Beatty wants me to be on his show to bring up his numbers, well I am in the book.

  15. Rick says:

Billy does not represent the views of rational, conservatives!!! Bye bye Billy!

Who nominated you as spokesman for conservatives? Who’s your idea of a “rational” conservative? McCain? Romney? The Blimp?

If the GOP nominates another “rational” conservative, and by that I mean a wishy-washy, cross-the-aisle “moderate,” they’ll lose again.

…when he (Morris) touches on politics or other serious topics, what I like is he knows how to get out of the way of conversation and allow the callers to have one…

Until they hang up…then he gives his opinion, after the possibility of being challenged is eliminated. He is strictly Entertainment Tonight, but there’s plenty of people who enjoy that kind of pablum.

I have met Jarrod, and he’s a decent guy. This isn’t personal.

Loved the morning show today when the brainless duo played the clip of Harold Ramis from Stripes and forgot to edit out the part with profanities (“SOB” and “sh**).

Stay classy at 7:15am, WGMD, when people are driving their kids to school. Where is the FCC when you need them?

  17. Anonymoustoo says:

Billy was a coward! Spewed his rhetoric and if someone tried to dispute him, he insulted them and hung up. His love affair with “Murph” was nauseating! Bye Bye Billy!

  18. Rick says:

    Billy was a coward!

This coming from someone who calls himself Anonymoustoo. lol

  19. saltyindependent says:

i passed him by on the dial reading the news tonight. i just figured they had scaled down. the feedback loop on his show just got smaller and smaller. the guy in the morning is a decent sports guy. he is not so good with his whiny morning show persona. the lady is pretty flat and unoriginal. radio is a tough business. i stopped listening to wgmd a long time ago. beatty could be interesting. i used to like the randy (i forget his last name). he actually reported on stories and did his own interviews and research. jared morris has a sense of humor and doesn’t take himself too seriously. that is much less stressful than listening someone’s constant rants about “them”

Got something to say? Go for it!
