Sher, More Government! More Government Spending!

sher   Sher Valenzuela admits she is for bigger government at debate.   At a debate in Georgetown, between the two Republican primary candidates, Ken Simpler and Sher Valenzuela, for the office of the Treasurer of Delaware tonight, Mrs. Valenzuela made her case for bigger government and more government spending.

Now this may confuse some of you who could have sworn that her campaign slogan was actually, “more jobs, less government”, and actually that is what is written on her campaign literature.  But when she speaks of her ideas for the office of the Treasurer, and its role in Delaware government, a different message comes through.

While Mrs. Valenzuela talks a lot about her conservative values, and while name calling her opponent a liberal, in reality, her one big idea for the office would actually cost tax payers more money, and would grow the size of government, and also collect data on private citizens.

You see, Mrs. Valenzuela would create what she is calling a citizens watchdog alert system. This system would send citizens an alert electronically if there were legislation in the pipeline that she as Treasurer believed to be detrimental to the citizens of the state. Sounds like a real good idea doesn’t it? Not so fast friends.

To create this system, would not the state have to create the infrastructure to support it? Would it not need to be staffed? The cost of the upkeep of the system would be never-ending and ever-growing. Also to participate in this system would require citizens to enter  information about themselves, such as email at the very least, but likely even more, such as name and address.

So you see, the person who is running around telling people that they are the true conservative is anything but. Mrs. Valenzuela would actually grow the size, scope and cost of Delaware’s government.

Just a couple of other high points of the debate, or in Mrs. Valenzuela’s case, low points.  First of all she referenced being at the 38th District straw poll, she was not! And Mr. Simpler, who was there, pointed out this fact. She also got the quote wrong that she was using, most likely because? SHE WASN’T THERE!

Mrs. Valenzuela did make one promise that she would be able to keep, she said if elected as Treasurer, she would never raise taxes. Well that is an easy promise to keep, since the Treasurer has no power to raise taxes, which makes her other claim of working to lower taxes very difficult to keep, since the Treasurer has no power to lower taxes either.

During the whole Chip Flowers flame out, most people have at least heard the name of the Cash Management Policy Board. That is except for Mrs. Valenzuela it would seem. The entire night she insisted on calling it the cash management board, leaving out the word policy. This is either due to her complete lack of knowledge about the office, or an attempt to down play the need for actual experience in investing large amounts of money to be Treasurer.

You see, the CMPB is actually a board, on which the Treasurer also sits, that sets policies for how the state will invest its money, it is then up to the Treasurer to oversee the day to-day operations of the office to ensure that the office operates within the “POLICIES” the CMPB has put in place. Of course I would not be surprised if Mrs. Valenzuela didn’t know this, or maybe she is looking to build  an escape hatch, should she be elected, by which she could escape blame for failure.

Tonight’s debate was another case of Ken Simpler giving the people facts, and real options for the office of the Treasurer, and Mrs. Valenzuela giving little more than empty rhetoric and promises she can’t possibly keep from the office she is running for.

It will be up to GOP voters to send the message to the rest of the state of Delaware, we need the most qualified person for the job, and since that job is not how to apply for government grants, it is not Sher Valenzuela.

Cheryl is very angry and upset.

  2. Derek Reigle says:

Sher is a joke. Simpler will win the primary easily.

  3. anon says:

Derek — Don’t be so sure. For that to happen, people of sound mind have to come out and vote. I’ve seen it happen many times where the less desirable candidate won because so many people stayed home. I encourage everyone to put in a little volunteer time to make sure Ken wins the primary BIG.

Also, as far as Sher’s “alert system” goes, you can already get email updates on every action the legislature takes, directly from the legislature. We don’t need liberal Sher’s opinion of what matters. WE can decide for ourselves.

  4. Miquel Martinez says:

It appears that the Valenzuela for Treasurer campaign were the ones who refused to have photos and recording.

    Why would that be?

  5. anon says:

That is true. And shame on Sher for denying the reporters their First Amendment right to cover the event.

Why bother? With one-party rule and our legislture’s fatuous belief in the efficacy of big government, most legislation coming out of Dover is “detrimental to the citizens of this state.”

    Frank,

What do you think of abolishing the Treasurer’s office entirely, replacing it with a Cash Management Board chosen at random from a class of experienced and generally competent money managers, Delaware housewives ?

  8. Frank Knotts says:

Delacrat, the problem would be, that there is no such thing as chosen randomly. No matter who or how you choose politics would play a role. It is not so much the office that has been the problem, it is the people that have been elected. Flowers is but the pinnacle of failure. Sher would be a mistake because she just wants the job for her resume. Barney would be a mistake because he is just a political wonk for Gov. Markell. Ken Simpler has the experience, and I believe the credibility to do the job in a manner that brings trust and honor back to a mid-level state-wide office.

Nice to see Sher is now deleting unfavorable comments from her Facebook page. And she would not accept WGMD’s debate offer today on the radio, saying she’d “talk about it.”

Yeah, Sher. Keep talking, and hope people don’t notice the absurdity of what you’re saying.

  10. RadiantSun says:

Sher has been deleting unfavorable comments from her Facebook page for months, even going so far as to block one Facebook user from commenting on her campaign page at all. She deletes the content she doesn’t like and keeps the content she does, sometimes within the same conversation thread. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone that she refused to allow the media to record the debate between her and Ken Simpler this past Tuesday – the woman literally deletes any dissenting opinions and every voice of reason. She’s living in her own world of denial and lies and she won’t listen to anyone who tries to discuss reality.

  11. Frank Knotts says:

I can tell you that I am also blocked from commenting on Sher’s FB page after questioning her views of what the office of the Treasurer could and could not do. Is this what passes for transparency in Sher’s world?
Maybe she has Don Ayotte running her FB page.

    Frank,

There is “such a thing as chosen randomly”. It happens every day. It’s called the Delaware lottery drawing.

  13. Frank Knotts says:

Delacrat, are you channeling William F. Buckley? “I am obliged to confess I should sooner live in a society governed by the first two thousand names in the Boston telephone directory than in a society governed by the two thousand faculty members of Harvard University.”

    Frank,

Considering that Obomba, Romney and Bush II are all Harvard graduates, would you not agree that Buckley was on to something ?

  15. Frank Knotts says:

    Yes I would.
