Meet the Press-Colin Powell Speaks Up About Emails

So it’s Labor Day weekend and guests are hard to come by. But you can always count on Colin Powell to take the podium and play it up the middle. Or to whoever gave the last praise.

Powell was asked, of course, how he handled personal emails during his term as Secretary of State. He gave some suitable answer about having separate email addresses, yada, yada. Then Powell was asked if how Hillary handled email was copasetic.

As is his wont, Powell was noncommittal. “I better let Hillary answer that,” Powell said, spoil sport.

ABC’s “This Week”-Mike Huckabee and Kim Davis

I’ll be honest here folks, I am still trying to wrap my mind around Kim Davis and how all that is working out.

My colleague, Frank Knotts, wrote a pretty good post on how he considers Davis to be a bit too judgmental. I’d ask Frank that whatever the case, is putting this woman in jail really the best solution to the problem? I consider it a bit like calling the police the night you refused to sign in.

It’s overkill.

BUT….I admit that I understand she’s elected and can’t be fired, that she’s taking a principled stand….well I delrite9.7.15ladysamesexmarriagedon’t have all the answers but Mike Huckabee did a pretty good job of defending Kim Davis.

Huckabee launched into a fine narrative about the founding fathers and how they created THREE forms of power and it was never for the Supreme Court to be passing laws.

The Huckster did a pretty good job with his argument but I got to wonder if this clerk in some berg in Kentucky someplace is the right place to stage whatever protest this might turn into.

State of the Union-Sarah Palin Wows.

Yes I like Sarah Palin but honestly her kids are starting to look like they have no self-control.
Sarah spoke of the power of children with Down’s Syndrome and how dumb to change the name of Mt. McKinley. She was a mildly amusing distraction.

Face the Nation-Newt Gingrich and a Good Book

Newt Gingrich took the podium

Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced, to my…..GASP….complete surprise, she was going to vote FOR the Iranian deal.

What a surprise!

Wasserman said she spoke to everyone on the entire planet and no one told her there was any way to get them back to the bargaining table.

Aw come on…does anyone think this woman was going to tell the truth.

delritesundayshows9.7.15mccolloughAs a pleasant surprise, Face the Nation had a book segment and a book my book club just read….and for which I, of course, wrote a review, was one of the chosen.

The Wright Brothers by David McCullough….a review of a book about inventions and two amazing inventors

Of course we all know the Wright Brothers invented the airplane…..and they did.

But do you know of their amazing story, how they spent weeks and years just studying birds? How they traveled the world to promote their product, how their home country of America almost let them slip by?

A truly great book.

Fox News Sunday-Dick Cheney’s new book

There was an especially good police presentation on Fox News Sunday with a couple of police representatives making a good case on why the attempt to paint all police as bad guys is so very wrong.

As an aside, but germane, my own priest, Father Tom of St. Jude the Apostle, this morning, right before mass, asked everyone who either was in law enforcement or had someone close to them in law enforcement, to please come to he front. After all were lined up at the front of the church, we all said a Hail Mary to pray for the safety of the folks in blue. We then said the pledge of allegiance, in church! We sang “America the Beautiful”, every single verse, and our recessional hymn was “God Bless America.”

Father Tom, very active in Kent county politics and having attended three state Republican conventions, is going to graciously grant me an interview….on this very forum!

I add a pic of myself with Father Tom, just to show off, and know they he very much wants to participate in Sussex county politics. If all goes well I hope to get him to the next Sussex county GOP meeting.

My point is…..by doing this very obvious show of solidarity with our police, Father Tom is being a leader, he is directing from the pulpit.

Ah…..tune in for my interview folks.

My Take

It was a slow news weekend, this Labor Day Sunday 9/6/15, to be sure. The newest political story of the week is this influx of refugees pouring into Germany, Austria, Hungary and various Arab countries.

I sat up straight, wanting to learn more what the hell this is all about.

Seems the refugees are coming from Syria, Iraq and Iran.

Say what? Iraq? Didn’t we free these people and they should be living a life of freedom, happiness and prosperity? Iran?

As for Syria, this administration has known for ages that the optometrist turned dictator was killing people via a nasty civil war that runs unchecked.

I heard a lot of murmurs on this Sunday talk show about how mean these countries were for not wanting to take in these refugees. And this particularly included the United States, which so far has only taken in about 1,400 refugees.

WELL GOOD FOR AMERICA!

You mean there’s refugees and aliens they are not letting in the country? What a concept!

It’s not that I don’t think those poor people shouldn’t be granted some kind of safety from the danger. Goodness knows we’ve all seen the drowned body of the little Syrian boy, God bless the evil people who allowed this to come about.

And it wasn’t, I’m betting, a single Hungarian, Austrian, German or….American.

Let us offer our prayers for these tortured people and hope that they gain peace in their land.

I do not respond to comments on my posts. I certainly have no problem with such commentary and, indeed, encourage it. But I’ve written my piece and I don’t want to argue it further.

NEXT : Tidbits and working on that interview with the Tea Party Priest.

Got something to say? Go for it!
