This cartoon misses the mark- by a thousand miles.

Immigrants entering New York harbor were welcomed to America by the Statue of Liberty. It became a symbol of freedom. But, these immigrants, many of whom would be processed at Ellis Island were here legally They didn’t sneak in, they didn’t hide in the shadows.

Entering the United States illegally s a criminal offense. No other developed nation has such porous borders. The situation today lies squarely at the feet of American politicians, of both parties, past and present. They simply refuse to secure the border, and then wonder why we have problems.

The Statue of Liberty- Lady Liberty- welcomes new arrivals with open arms. Those who enter illegally spit in her face.

Rick, not sure if you simply wanted to say what you said, or if you missed the point of the cartoon. Take another look. The silhouette on the shower curtain is that of a TEA member (notice the tri-cornered hat and the tea bags hanging from it), and is about to kill Liberty. The point is that for all their talk of Liberty, the TEA people are actually more detrimental to Liberty than those they claim to be opposed to.

Cue the music from the movie “phsyco”! good one Frank!

“The point is that for all their talk of Liberty, the TEA people are actually more detrimental to Liberty than those they claim to be opposed to.”

Very true Frank. What many groups wind up doing is substituting their own form of tyranny by cloaking it in the flag and calling it liberty. One of the primary differences between hard left and the hard right is that the left believes that everyone should suffer or prosper equally regardless of individual efforts. It’s not just equal opportunity they believe in. Rather it is equal results.

The hard on the other hand employs the meme – good for me but not for thee. Resulting in logical conflicts where someone claims discrimination for a 2nd Amendment right but fails recognize infringement of a 1rst Amendment right. Or a libertarian attitude that applies to everywhere except people’s bedroom and women’s vagina.

In short, IMHO the hard left main characteristic is a disconnect from reality, while the hard right is simply hypocritical. I am tougher on the right than the left, because the right knows what they are doing. It’s intentional.

Rick, not sure if you simply wanted to say what you said, or if you missed the point of the cartoon…

Of course I “got the point” of the cartoon. And the “point” is complete bulls#!t, since Lady Liberty has historically welcomed legal immigrants, not those who cross the border in the dark of night, illegally.

The fundamental position of the TEA Party is a secure border. Those who violate the laws of the United States by sneaking across the border illegally are spitting in the face of Lady Liberty. Get it?

Frank, you continue to be duped by left-wing propaganda.

  6. Frank Knotts says:

Rick, you say that, “The fundamental position of the TEA Party is a secure border”. Really? Because “TEA” originally stood for taxed enough already. The fact that you paint your own views onto the TEA blank page only shows the underlying problem, and the ultimate downfall of the TEA movement. There is no guiding ideology per say, only a label of TEA Party, under which any and all fringe elements cloak themselves to throw stones at all who disagree with them. OH! WAIT! Now I understand why the TEA and the POD travel so well together.

  7. Mike Protack says:

What part of the Tea Party beliefs are the problem?

    Responsible spending, debt and taxes?

    More Freedom, Liberty and Opportunity?

    What?

  8. Rick says:

The fundamental position of the TEA Party is a secure border”.

Okay Frank, you tell me. What is the position of the TEA Party on immigration, and who is their spokesperson? Where and when was the position articulated?

Returning to the subject- the cartoon- it what way does wanting to stem the tide of illegal immigration threaten the welcoming of legal immigrants, those who apply in accordance with US laws?

The left, including the lifelong leftist of the Washington Post Group who created the cartoon, believes in blanket amnesty, with full entitlement benefits and with no border security. That is the cartoonist’s position- is that your position?

In the future, don’t be duped by pretty pictures that are merely clever lies.

  9. Frank Knotts says:

To both Rick and Mike Protack, this may come as a surprise to the both of you, but there is no TEA “PARTY”.
So Rick, you are free to say that the fundamental position of the TEA is border control, because there is no leadership, or platform, only self proclaimed TEA people who run about touting their credentials.
One group will say taxes, another immigration, another will use the general term of Liberty as their fundamental position.
The problem Mr. Protack is that many of these self proclaimed “LEADERS” of the TEA movement are simply self promoting charlatans.
More Freedom, for the things they believe, but less for others. They will attack anyone who is not 100% in agreement with there check box politics, you should know this of all people.
Liberty and opportunity, well those are relative to each individual’s perspective.
Responsible spending, means spending on the things they want, like expanding the county sheriff’s offices.
Debt and taxes, well if you lower taxes while proposing increasing the size of government like the expansion of the county sheriff’s offices, you will have debt.
This is why I feel that a lot of the TEA people are not true conservatives, but only malcontents that are sucking off the GOP teat because there libertarian and independent attempts at creating real parties have failed.
Due in my view to a total lack of vision and leadership beyond rabble rousers who take on terms such as “confrontational politics”. Which is nothing but a reworking of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules For Radicals” and nothing more. They believe evidently that you can defeat something by becoming that thing.
    No thank you!

  10. Rick says:

To both Rick and Mike Protack, this may come as a surprise to the both of you, but there is no TEA “PARTY”.

Really? Then why did you post the cartoon?

So Rick, you are free to say that the fundamental position of the TEA is border control, because there is no leadership, or platform, only self proclaimed TEA people who run about touting their credentials.

Really? Why do you think I posted:

Okay Frank, you tell me. What is the position of the TEA Party on immigration, and who is their spokesperson? Where and when was the position articulated?

You are the one fixated on the TEA Party, not me. You posted the idiotic cartoon, not me. If there is no TEA Party, then what’s the risk to Lady Liberty? The Statue of Liberty has traditionally welcomed legal, law-abiding immigrants. Those who sneak across the border by the dark of night spit in Lady Liberty’s face. Like the cartoonist, that must be your position, too.

I do tend to agree with so-called TEA Party types like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz. They have the guts to confront Omaba and the left, rather than appease them like the “establishment” McConnell types. And if the GOP still hasn’t learned anything, and nominates another “establishment” cross-the-aisle appeaser like McCain and Romney, i.e., The Blimp, they’ll lose again. Don’t be a sucker for left-wing media hype about “electability.” Chris Matthews touts guys like McCain and Romney because he knows they can’t win- and the GOP establishment plays along. Unbelievable.

In presidential elections, conservatives win and moderates lose.

Got something to say? Go for it!
