We Must Protect Ourselves

islamic state   Considering the information coming to light, following the horrific and cowardly attack in San Bernardino, California, it is obvious that we face a totally new challenge in the United States, concerning our security.  The question always arises after the fact, “what could we have done to prevent this?” The same question was asked following 9/11, and in asking that question, we as a nation took measures to ensure it never happened again, and God willing, it hasn’t.

But we face a determined enemy, an enemy that cannot be defined by national borders, or even military uniforms. We face an enemy which has no real leadership, an enemy whom as we kill its leaders, simply grows another head.

And now, as we have seen in San Bernardino, we face the most dangerous of all enemies, the home-grown, lone wolf, self radicalized  terrorist. Possibly the man was influenced by his on-line bride, possibly it is another new technique of the global terrorist to recruit, who knows for sure?

What we do know, is that no amount of vetting, nor bans on immigration can weed out the person who has been born here, and who, for whatever reason, decides to become a religious extremist, to take on the tactics and the beliefs of the terrorist around the world who have undertaken the overthrow of western societies.

Of course, we cannot ignore the fact that these sick individuals have wrapped their psychosis around the religion of Islam, they have. The same as the sick young man in South Carolina, who shot up an African-American church, had wrapped his psychosis around racism and the Confederate Flag.

There are people in this world who simply want to do evil, to ignore this fact is at our own peril. They will seek out justification for that evil, be it some twisted racial view, or some religious fanaticism.  Some will even use the evil deeds of others, to justify their own desire to do evil.

We, as Americans, owe it to our fellow citizens and our children to protect this nation from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. We have a right to keep and bear arms, to defend ourselves and our homes. We  have a moral duty to see to it that people are allowed to make their own choices as to how they live their lives, and how they choose to practice their faith. For that is the true meaning of Liberty.

Our government is charged with protecting the borders of this nation, the government is charged with defending our interest around the world, along with those of our allies. Sometimes this means using military force, at other times, it means taking humanitarian actions, to demonstrate that the United States of America, stands for Freedom, for all people.

So yes, we must protect ourselves, we must protect our borders, we must protect our interest, we must protect our material belongings, we must protect our very lives, and those of our children and our neighbors. It is every citizens duty to be watchful and vigilant.

We must protect our very future as a nation, that has long-held itself out, as the shining beacon of Liberty. Which means, it is equally as important, if not more so, that we must protect the ideals upon which this nation was founded.

“Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”, “that all men are created equal”.

flag   We as a people, are responsible for whether or not this flag will stand for those ideals, or will we allow our national fear, to  stain those brilliant stars and stripes?

Yes, we must protect ourselves, we must protect ourselves from the bigots, who would wrap their hatred in a nationalist rhetoric, who would turn our nation, from one which has always seen itself as a leader of Freedom, into a nation which would become just like those who would destroy us, be it ISIS, Al-Qaida, or whatever new name our enemies choose to take on.

If we allow fear to rule our emotions as a nation, if we talk of selecting people out for judgement based upon their religious beliefs solely, then are we not doing exactly what ISIS is doing? Oh, we haven’t gotten to the point of cutting off their heads yet. However, the goal of our enemies is to change our western society, they hate us because of our freedoms.

So, if we stop being that free and open society which has long welcomed immigrants to our shores, where all men are free to worship as they see fit, where all people are free to speak out against their leaders without fear of retribution, if we become the nation that determines who is worthy of being an American based on their religious beliefs, or their language, their skin color, their national origin, then we have done exactly what the terrorist want us to do. We have become more like them.

As I said above, we must protect ourselves from known enemies, but there is no protection from the unknown enemy, the person who will just decide to kill. Until someone shows up with the proverbial crystal ball, there is no way to protect ourselves from that person.

Some may argue that we must not allow anyone from a Muslim nation to enter the United States. Some have gone so far, as to advocate closing Mosque and creating Islamic registries. Somewhere, I am sure, there are some who think we should just round-up all Muslims in this nation and put them in interment camps, much like we did with Japanese and German immigrants during WWII. Did this make us safer at that time? Who really knows, but what it did do, it created a generational division in this nation within those communities.

Of course we could just “load them all up and send them back where they came from”.  In the case of the male shooter in San Bernardino, that would be Illinois.

We are once again at a cross-road, we must decide, will we spread the message of freedom through example, by being the nation we like to think we are? Or will we allow the terrorist to win? Will we allow our own national fear to rule our emotions and judgement?

We have many enemies around the world, who wish to destroy us simply because we would spread freedom among them. We now see that we have many enemies within our borders as well. What we don’t need, is to become our own greatest enemy to ourselves, because of fear.

In the case of the male shooter in San Bernardino, that would be Illinois.

And in the case of the female shooter, that would be the Islamic State of Pakistan.

    And both were Muslims.

Islam is not a religion; intertwined with religious dogma is a system of jurisprudence and government. And jihad. And like the Terminator, it cannot be reasoned with; it has no compassion; it simply will not stop until you “submit.” That is what Islam means. Submit.

How can anyone be so naive? Neville Chamberlain Knotts.

  2. Frank Knotts says:

There goes Rick again, picking and choosing. Islam means “submit to God”. Not to the religion or any man.
Rick also said.” intertwined with religious dogma is a system of jurisprudence and government.”
True, just like the Bible. It is the interpretation that leads to violence.
Your generalities are a demonstration of exactly what we have to fear from within. Thanks as always Rick you never fail me.

  3. Rick says:

Go ahead and bury your head in the sand…in time, maybe the Muslims will do it for you.

Are you sure our “enemies” don’t hate us for our invasions, occupations, client despots, drone strikes, Abu Ghraib, zionism……?

  5. fightingbluehen says:

“Are you sure our “enemies” don’t hate us for our invasions, occupations, client despots, drone strikes, Abu Ghraib, zionism……?”

Sounds like a list of things that you should be asking the current president.

We should asking, …..but you never will.

BTW, I never voted for the current president.

They hate us because they are Muslims and we are not. They are merely following the instructions of the Koran. The dream of Islam- whether it takes a year or three millennia- is a world Caliphate and Sharia law. All other religions must be subjugated. Submit.

  9. mouse says:

I though all the violent angry white guys were going to be taken off to FEMA camps

  10. Rick says:

    From today’s “Breitbart,” Pamela Geller:

….Lynch declared: “When we talk about the First Amendment we [must] make it clear that actions predicated on violent talk are not American. They are not who we are, they are not what we do, and they will be prosecuted. My message not just to the Muslim community but to all Americans is: we cannot give in to the fear that these backlashes are really based on.”

If Lynch is serious in prosecuting hate speech, then she will have to start closing down mosques and banning the Quran. She wants to restrict the First Amendment so as to curb “actions predicated on violent talk?” Then she should ban this “violent talk”:

And slay them wherever you come upon them, and expel them from where they expelled you; persecution is more grievous than slaying. But fight them not by the Holy Mosque until they should fight you there; then, if they fight you, slay them — such is the recompense of unbelievers, but if they give over, surely Allah is All-forgiving, All-compassionate. Fight them, till there is no persecution and the religion is Allah’s; then if they give over, there shall be no enmity save for evildoers. (Quran 2:191-193)

Men are the managers of the affairs of women for that Allah has preferred in bounty one of them over another, and for that they have expended of their property. Righteous women are therefore obedient, guarding the secret for Allah’s guarding. And those you fear may be rebellious admonish; banish them to their couches, and beat them. (Quran 4:34)

They wish that you should disbelieve as they disbelieve, and then you would be equal; therefore take not to yourselves friends of them, until they emigrate in the way of Allah; then, if they turn their backs, take them, and slay them wherever you find them; take not to yourselves any one of them as friend or helper. (Quran 4:89)

This is the recompense of those who fight against Allah and His Messenger, and hasten about the earth, to do corruption there: they shall be slaughtered, or crucified, or their hands and feet shall alternately be struck off; or they shall be banished from the land. That is a degradation for them in this world; and in the world to come awaits them a mighty chastisement. (Quran 5:33)

When thy Lord was revealing to the angels, ˜I am with you; so confirm the believers. I shall cast into the unbelievers’ hearts terror; so smite above the necks, and smite every finger of them! (Quran 8:12)

In most Muslim cities- and remember, Islam is a system of dogma, jurisprudence and governance- they place large loudspeakers throughout the city, and spew this type of vitriolic rhetoric to young and old. The same crap is incessantly propagated to children in the madrasahs. It is all they hear. And it is straight out of the Koran.

In America, naive dolts with no sense of survival choose to ignore the reality of today and point-out that Christianity is violent, too. The Bible speaks of killing and punishment, too. Remember the Crusades and the Inquisition?

But the Crusades and Inquisition were hundreds of years ago. Christianity has reformed. Christianity, unlike Islam, is not a state religion.

But Islam is not reformed. The violence against the “infidel” isn’t some ancient enmity from centuries ago. It is today. And it is spreading.

Perhaps when, thanks to Obama and the Socialist-Democrats, Iran is able to detonate a nuclear bomb in some major U.S. city ( and don’t think they won’t if they can), our Muslim butt-kissers on this blog, the “mainstream” media, the administration and elsewhere will finally come to grips with reality- this is literally a war for survival, and has been since the times of Charles Martel.

Barack Obama: “Muslims are our sports heroes.”

    What a pathetic idiot.

Especially at the World Trade Center.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eD52OlkKfNs

Do you still want to compare notes on the Quran and the bible ? For violence and sexism and barbarism? How does an oz smell when it’s cooking next door
And would you actually come out and help with the stoning ?

Of course you ALSO said that Christian had not beheaded any non Christian over religion
    That was proven false
And Christians had not flown A plane into a building
    I proved that false too

Keep going Rick. It’s fun watching you lose these arguments

And face it. Christians DONT have the high moral ground here – the only difference between the two is the era….. They have their shills and well , we have you

  15. Frank Knotts says:

Rick, it may be due to translation, but those quotes above seem to have some words left out of them, at least in the version of the Quran I reference, but of course you simply follow along behind your fellow travelers and repeat what you are told. You are no better than the terrorist. You take things out of context to serve your purpose.

  16. Rick says:

Rick, it may be due to translation, but those quotes above seem to have some words left out of them, at least in the version of the Quran I reference…

Until you demonstrate to me that you are fluent in Arabic, I think I’ll accept the translation provided by experts who do speak Arabic.

… of course you simply follow along behind your fellow travelers and repeat what you are told.

    Told? I can read.

My “fellow travelers” include Cruz and Trump- who, as an aside, are running at the top of GOP polls. Who are your “fellow travelers?” Pandora, Geezer, Obama and Al Sharpton.

You are no better than the terrorist.

Really? Perhaps you are no better that an insane Imam or Rachael Maddow (and please, feel free to call me a terrorist next time we bump into each other).

You take things out of context to serve your purpose.

Did I take the World Trade Center “out of context.” How about Paris? The comments of the Supreme Leader of Iran?

You are a disgruntled ex-Republican who finds solace in running a both that serves the left. You are what the apparatchiks of Russia called a stooge, or a “useful idiot.” Far from adhering to the blog’s supposed “mission,” you simply facilitate irrational “liberalism.” Your blog is, essentially, an auxiliary site subordinate to Delaware Liberal. A quick perusal of the various threads demonstrate this clearly; Pandora, delacrat, Geezer and so on- your “fellow travelers” who have probably never voted for a Republican in their lives, and who most certainly do promote the radical Obama agenda.

No wonder the GOP told you to get lost. Well, now you’re found. Comfortably ensconced among the radical left and the Muslim butt kissers.

  17. Vivian says:

I am a conservative Christian woman. I do not believe in the Muslim religion. But I believe in the freedom of our country and for the freedom for people to believe differently and practice their religions in peace. Rick If you don’t think you are going down a path that could destroy the freedom of Christians you are Truly fooling yourself. If we open the door to the extreme Trump is spewing as of yesterday we open the doors for all churches and Bible studies to be shut down.
If you don’t think that not allowing Muslims in this country would be just the beginning, please consider this poem, displayed on the Holocaust museum:
“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Rick is Donald Trump without the Mad Political Skillz.

  19. Frank Knotts says:

Rick dial your anger back a couple notches. What I meant was that where the quotes you used and the translation I am using, might differ, because the quotes you are using seem to be missing some words from the translation I am using, and conveniently for you those omissions make the quotes seem more radical. Much in the way I am sure the terrorist do the same thing.
As for me repeating what I said here when we meet again. Well I didn’t call you a terrorist, I said you are no better than one for using their tactics of manipulation. So consider it said, and if we meet take whatever action you feel necessary. But please take your phone out of your purse before you swing it.
And geezer, actually Rick “IS” Donal Trump, with the exact same political skills, just without the money to promote them.
And Rick before you again repeat how Trump leads the polls, all that proves is that either the pollsters are skewing the data to get the answer they want, or it means that the GOP has finally been taken over by the fascist TEA movement completely.

  20. mouse says:

And of course this all drowns out any discussion of adequate infrastructure funding, adequate SS and Medicare funding and any discussion about the next generation having living wages jobs. All because the talk radio republicans rather satisfy their racist resentments than work for a better world for their kids

  21. Rick says:

    This is what you said;

You are no better than the terrorist.

    Really?

You are no better than Al Sharpton. Maybe worse; at least he doesn’t pretend to be a conservative Republican.

…if we meet take whatever action you feel necessary. But please take your phone out of your purse before you swing it.

    Anything you say, cupcake.

Have you seen the latest GOP polls? Trump is waaaaay ahead. Second- Cruz.

Funny, about a month ago on this blog, those were my top two picks. I’m sorry you’re so out of step with Republicans. But, I notice your Delaware Liberal friends, Geezer and mouse are here to lend you support. Where’s Pandora?

    See ‘ya later, Stooge.

  22. Rick says:

Hey, I almost forgot; the latest hardcore right CNN poll…

A full 61% oppose Obama’s refugee program. Only 38% approve.

Poor Stooge, stuck with Pandora and the 38%.

I wonder what the GOP opposition is …80%?…90%?

  23. Rick says:

Do you still want to compare notes on the Quran and the bible ? For violence and sexism and barbarism?…Laffer

My God, how dense are you?

Where is the Bible used as a governing document?

    When were the Crusades?

    Ever heard of the Reformation?

The Koran is, by it’s very essence, a governing document, and is used as such throughout the Islamic world. Women are required to wear burkas. Adulterous are stoned. Slavery is ubiquitous. And jihad is taught in the madrasses.

Most- not all- Muslim countries live in the 10th Century. And they want to take us there.

Luckily, the majority of Americans agree with me. About the only thing you’ve “proved” is your naivity.

    Now, where’s Pandora?

  24. Rick says:

From a new poll of Muslim “Americans”…

The Center for Security Policy released a poll Tuesday that should give all Americans pause. The results show that a startling number of American Muslims, our fellow citizens, agree that violence is a legitimate response to those who insult Islam. A full majority of 51% “agreed that “Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to shariah.”

According to the just-released survey of Muslims, a majority (51%) agreed that “Muslims in America should have the choice of being governed according to shariah.” When that question was put to the broader U.S. population, the overwhelming majority held that shariah should not displace the U.S. Constitution (86% to 2%). …

Even more troubling, is the fact that nearly a quarter of the Muslims polled believed that, “It is legitimate to use violence to punish those who give offense to Islam by, for example, portraying the prophet Mohammed.”

A full 25% of those polled agreed that “violence against Americans here in the United States can be justified as part of the global jihad.”

Fifty-one percent of Muslims polled believe that the U.S. Constitution should be subservient to Islamic Law. In the United States.

You lefties just don’t get the fact that Islam isn’t just a religion; it is a system of jurisprudence and governance.

Just look at the Middle East, and see how well it works.

    Submit.

  25. pandora says:

Sheesh, what is your fixation with me? Mentioning me once, or responding to what I write, is fine, but randomly inserting my name in your comments is creepy. Do I, like Frank, need to be concerned next time we bump into each other? Dial it back, okay?

    Moving on…

First, I know exactly what the Center for Security Policy is and who runs it. To hold this poll and Frank Gaffney up as an unbiased, reliable source is laughable. Gaffney is a conspiracy theorist and an Islamaphobe.

Here’s some info on Frank Gaffney:

    – He accused CPAC board member Grover Norquist, whose wife is Palestinian-American, and board member Suhail Khan, who is Muslim, of secretly aiding the Muslim Brotherhood. CPAC banned Gaffney from future events.

    – “What if it turns out that some of the people the Obama administration has been embracing are actually promoting the same totalitarian ideology and seditious agenda as al Qaeda, only they’re doing it from White House Iftar dinners?” he asked in the Washington Times, referring to the meal served after Ramadan fasts.

Is that really your source, Rick?

As far as that “poll” you keep citing…

The Washington Post has called the poll “shoddy,” saying it was an online opt-in poll of 600 U.S. Muslims. An online opt-in poll? How the hell do you even know who is responding? The Center for Security Policy took no steps to identify if actual Muslims participated.

Georgetown University’s Bridge Initiative weighed in on the poll: “this survey should not be taken seriously. It comes from an organization with a history of producing dubious claims and ‘studies’ about the threat of shariah, and was administered using an unreliable methodology. Its proponents seize upon its shoddy findings, exaggerating and misrepresenting them to American audiences, and falsely claim that the survey data represent the views of Muslims nationwide.”

No one with a functioning brain cell would take this poll seriously. Step up your game.

  26. Frank Knotts says:

Rick, if you don’t understand that the Old Testament was written as law to govern then you are out of touch.
As for your poll from the Center for Security Policy? Ha, ha, ha. You guys are so funny. What’s the matter, can’t find a poll that isn’t put out by some bias hate group? Just look at the articles written by its founder and president Frank Gaffney Jr. . Next you’ll be quoting Alex Jones.
And if you use the tactics of the terrorist then you are no better than the terrorist. Cupcake!😁

  27. Frank Knotts says:

Sorry Pandora we were posting at the same time. But I think Rick may have a taboo crush on you. You know, that dangerous love for what you hate?😜
Rick suffers from search engine envy. The problem is when he researches something like Islam, he puts “why Muslims kill” in his search engine, and so he gets what he wants, which is reasons why Muslims kill.
It is just too hard for him to actually read something for himself, he needs someone to tell him what to think. He is the sheeple he claims others to be.

  28. Rick says:

Sheesh, what is your fixation with me?

    You, Frank, Geezer…..you’re all interchangeable.

Do I, like Frank, need to be concerned next time we bump into each other?

Huh? Frank is “concerned?” Did he call you up, or what?

    Dial it back, okay?

Dial what back? You may be Queen Bee at Delaware Commie, but not here.

Here is another recent survey. Since “liberals” (actually, lockstep conformists) like to shoot the messenger, note the responses in this survey on gay marriage,TEA Party disapproval and so on. On most issues, the responses are basically centerist or even slightly left on some issues.

But, the majority believe that Islam is incompatible with U.S. values.

But I think Rick may have a taboo crush on you.

Well, you can think what you want to think, Dr. Fraud. But I know that, contrary to Delaware Right’s conservative “mission,” your most vehement and numerous supporters on this blog are Delaware Liberal stalwarts like Pandora, Laffer, Geezer and so on- and this thread is emblematic of that circumstance.

This “conservative” blog has few followers. And the majority are Obamaites.

    LOL.

Where are your fellow conservatives, Frank?

  29. pandora says:

That survey from Public Religion Research Institute is interesting. Since you cite it you must agree with what it says, not just about Islam, right? I mean, you are using this survey to make your point, right? You did read the entire survey, right?

More than three-quarters (76%) of Americans support raising the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 per hour. Support has ticked up significantly since 2014, when 69% of Americans expressed support for raising the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour. Nearly six in ten (59%) Americans express support for raising the minimum wage even higher—to $15 per hour—but there is less agreement across political party lines for the larger wage hike. Roughly equal numbers of Democrats favor raising the minimum wage to either $10.10 or $15 (91% vs. 84%, respectively). In contrast, while six in ten (60%) Republicans support raising the minimum wage to $10.10, fewer than one-third (32%) say they favor raising it to $15 per hour.

Americans overwhelmingly support requiring companies to provide all full-time employees with paid sick days if they or an immediate family member gets sick (85%), and requiring companies to provide all full-time employees with paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child (82%).

Hey, if you want to go with the majority, get on board. After all, if the majority of Americans agree then they are right – at least that’s Rick’s claim.

The survey also rings the death knell for the Tea Party. (I’m loving Rick’s survey!)

In surveys like this I always look at the sample size and breakdown, you know… research. Here’s the breakdown for this survey:

    Appendix Table 1
Demographic, Political, and Religious Subgroup Sample Sizes
    (All figures are unweighted)

    Total Sample – 2,695
    Male – 1,193
    Female – 1,502

    Democrat – 962
    Independent – 995
    Republican – 659
    Tea Party – 179

    White, non-‐Hispanic – 1,928
    Black, non-‐Hispanic – 292
    Hispanic – 228

    White working-‐class – 793
    White college-‐educated – 861

    Age
    18-‐29 – 337
    30-‐49 – 882
    50-‐64 – 847
    65+ – 628

    White evangelical Protestant – 455
    White mainline Protestant – 523
    Black Protestant – 221
    Catholic – 517
    White Catholic – 375
    Hispanic Catholic – 98
    Religiously unaffiliated – 520

Interesting, no? Why are only white working class and white college educated broken down? Just curious as to why only that group gets listed.

  30. Frank Knotts says:

Rick I know it bothers you when people who hold different ideologies can find common ground from time to time. But that is what intelligent people do.
And I guess I missed the announcement naming you as arbiter of who is and who isn’t a conservative.

  31. mouse says:

I’m for conserving the environment, does that count?

  32. Rick says:

Rick I know it bothers you when people who hold different ideologies can find common groun…

Tell me, Frandora- what is the “common ground” between the dedicated socialist and the free market capitalist? What is the “common ground” between the collectivist and the individualist? What is the common ground between the statist and the proponent of limited government? What is the “common ground” between the quota and the qualification? What is the “common ground” between those who circumvent the constitution and those who defend it?

There simply is no “middle ground” when you’re dealing with the radical left. And that’s what the Socialist-Democrat Party represents- the radical left.

And that’s who the great majority of your supporters on this blog are- Socialist-Democrats.

You really need to re-write your blog’s mission statement. You are obviously no longer aligned with the majority of Republicans. And you are most certainly not a conservative.

I see Pandora, Geezer, mouse, delacrat, Laffer…..

    …..…where are the conservatives?

    lol

  33. mouse says:

Capitalism builds wealth. I’m for that. I’m also for a reasonable distribution of the spoils to go to the workers who built the wealth and not the top few taking it all. Am I a socialist?

  34. mouse says:

There is no real organized radical left outside of talk radio straw men

  35. mouse says:

I’m not a democrat and I do mindlessly confine myself to some meaningless label

  36. Frank Knotts says:

Well Ricky, the answer to all of the questions you asked about common ground. Well we can’t find it unless we are willing to stop dividing ourselves because someone doesn’t share our views 100%.
And again, who nominated you to define what is a conservative? Personally I don’t think it is conservative to be in favor of banning people based on the religious faith, but you have no problem doing that.
You see Rickster, I have come to understand that conservatism and liberalism is relative. You see, I see myself as conservative because I believe in representative republic, but you don’t see me as a conservative because you are closer to a fascist.
On the other hand Mouse thinks I am Rush Limbaugh because they are closer to Bernie Sanders.
You see Rickles, I understand that the world is not just black and white, left and right, and contrary to your narrow minded view, there is always common ground if we are willing to open our eyes and ears.
And just so you know, your third grade name calling, “Frandora”, only proves you have no real point to make.

Got something to say? Go for it!
