Chip Flowers Withdraws From Campaign

vote  In an announcement during a press conference today, Democrat incumbent Treasurer, Chip Flowers stated that he would be withdrawing his name for re-election.   The announcement comes on the heals of charges of harassment leveled just days earlier by his former deputy, who along with flowers had been implicated in a scandal involving misuse of state issued credit cards.

The latest charges involve allegations that Mr. Flowers had made threats against his former deputy and her 16-year-old son.

While this seems to settle the primary issue for the Democrats, there is still a GOP primary between Ken Simpler and Sher Valenzuela to decide who will face the Democrat in the general election.

Mr. Flowers has said that he will fulfill his current term and then leave the state. We will have to wait and see if there are any other developments that might cause him to reconsider finishing his term. There is still speculation about the possible existence of photos of him at a football game that was part of the credit card scandal. An accusation that Mr. Flowers denied unconditionally.

This makes it more critical than ever that we send Simpler into the general election with a huge victory over Sher.

you mean he’s gonna ‘leave this god-forsaken place’ to paraphrase someone else.

anyone remember who might have already said something like this????

OOH, OOH I know, I know!

My memory has holes… Who was it that said that?

But it is time to shut Greenville down who is bankrolling Sher and elect the guy who has been running for this office over the past two years. Sher filed minutes before the deadline… If she runs, my vote goes Dem to stop her. If she loses, Simpler is in.

Flowers was defending himself against the harassment charges, he had no intentions of leaving the race. The nail in his coffin was that Erika Benner had a picture of Flowers at the Patriots game and finally decided to turn it over to the News Journal. When the story about the Patriots tickets first came out, Flowers tried to pin the trip on Rep. Trey Paradee, who denied the allegations. Once the truth came out, Flowers knew that his support among Ds would disappear.

Got something to say? Go for it!
