Senator Lawson Earns His Degree In Bigotry

dave lawson  This is Sen. Dave Lawson (R), he is the Senator for the 15th SD. Is this what passes for a patriot these days?      On Wednesday, on the Senate floor, a Muslim Imam was invited to give the invocation, during which Sen. Lawson and Senator Colin Bonini both decided they couldn’t stomach being in the same room during a so-called Muslim prayer.

I guess maybe their faith in Jesus Christ is so weak, they feared listening to the Muslim prayer might cause them to become Muslim. I hope someone has warned them, that if they shake the hand of a gay man, they too will become homosexual, because that’s how it works in hillbilly land.

It would seem a silent protest of the prayer would not suffice for Sen. Lawson, when he returned to the chamber following the prayer, he felt compelled to make a statement. Because what good is an act of grandstanding if no one knows you did it?

When the   “Doctrinaire Duo” returned, Sen. Lawson had this to say.  “We just heard from the Quran, which calls for our very demise”, “I fought for this country, not to be damned by someone who comes in here and prays to their God for our demise. I think that is despicable.”  (I hope everyone else is hearing Daffy Duck saying, “You’re Despicable”, because I am.)  daffy duck

So it would seem as though the “honorable” Senator Lawson only fought for so-called Christians, he obviously didn’t fight for the rights of anyone outside his ever so small world view. Christians, okay. Old white dudes? Okay.  Anyone else? No we be good.

He said “not to be damned by someone who comes in here and prays to their God for our demise.”  So obviously the “good” Senator had no idea what was said during the prayer, oh that’s right, because the fool was not in the room, so how would he know?

This is what the quote from the Quran was, “O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to God, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents or your kin, be he rich or poor, God is a better protector to both than you. So do not follow the lust of your hearts, lest you may avoid justice, and if you distort your witness or refuse to give it, verily, God is ever well acquainted with what you do.”

Okay, someone tell me where this man called for our demise? But I do see the part that would have given the “learned” Senator pause. ” God is ever well acquainted with what you do.”  I can see how that might put the fear of God into a person like Mr. Lawson.

It is obvious Sen. Lawson has never read the Quran in context, after all, if he did, he might spontaneously combust into a full-blown, bomb toting, head chopping terrorist Muslim.

No, more likely he gets his information from the usual ” I hate Muslims” websites, or maybe it is what he picks up at some of the events he attends, like the local KKK chapter, or as we like to call them in Sussex, the 912 Delaware Patriots.

President Pro Tempore David McBride, D-New Castle, did rebuke Sen. Lawson for his comments about the guest, stating, “I have never been of the mind to censure the words of other members, but I also believe deeply that words have consequences,” McBride said, reading aloud from a statement. “To criticize the sacred prayer of another religion from the floor of the Senate strikes me as antithetical to everything we ought to stand for as lawmakers.”

Lawson responded, with what might be my new, number one ignorant quote ever, “This is not our Bible, we should not be allowing them to pray from that book in our house, just as I do not believe I would be allowed to pray from my Bible in their house.”

“This is not our Bible“? Well Mr. Lawson, I’m not so sure your Bible, is my Bible, since my Bible preaches tolerance for others.  “we should not be allowing them to pray from that book in our house“. AH! Sen. Lawson, what in the hell does that even mean? It’s the people’s house, all the people of this state, including Muslims, and if you are going to allow Christian religious leaders to give the invocation, then according to the Constitution, you have to allow all religions to be represented in the same manner. For if you restrict it to a single religion, which is allowed to give the prayer in a governmental setting, then you have just established a state religion.

Which brings me to the real point of this post. Yes, yes, it was also to point out the intolerant ignorance of two of our state Senators, and to expose just how ashamed the citizens of this state should be, to know this is what passes for legislative leadership in Delaware. It was also to point out why some Muslims hate us, and how this type of rhetoric only drives more Muslims into the waiting arms of the radical Islamist. Instead of reaching out to better understand this community, these  hillbillies take the opportunity  to insult this community, and in doing so, demonstrate their complete lack of knowledge on a topic they claim to be passionate about.

But more importantly, this is the perfect demonstration of why there should be no official prayer, before, during or at anytime in conjunction with any government body. Atheist will be offended by any prayer, as we see with this story, Christians will be offended by Muslim prayers, Wiccans will be offended by the Satanist, Buddhist won’t be offended by anyone, they just need a quiet corner to sit in.

Now of course how many times have we heard Christians make the argument about prayer in schools and during government meetings, “who care if someone is offended?” “If they don’t like it, they can leave”. Which is what Sen. Lawson and Bonini did, and if it had ended there, well there wouldn’t really be a controversy, but as I said, what good is an act of grandstanding, if no one knows about it.

I will not be surprised to see Sen. Lawson bring forth some moronic resolution or bill to ban Muslim prayer in the Senate, after all that is right up his alley.

No, what needs to happen, is to do away with the idea of an invocation all together. What is the point after all? Each member can pray in their own manner, prior to, during and after. What is the purpose of this public display of faith? Well there it is. It is about being seen as a righteous person, to be seen praying, to be seen and nothing more. God hears our individual prayers. Prayers have no more weight, or volume just because we stand with a group.

Jesus Christ is my savior. I know this, and he knows this, I don’t need a crowd to make the point. After all, we all get into heaven one at a time, no one gets in holding the hand of the man next to him. I believe what I believe, but I am not nearly as arrogant as Sen. Lawson, as to profess to know the will of God. I believe I will enter heaven because of accepting Christ. But no one knows for sure until they are standing before God.

Anyone with any intellectual honesty, even in the area of faith, has to understand, when it come to the great unknown, there is always the chance they could be wrong.

Wouldn’t it be priceless to see the look on Sen. Lawson’s face on judgement day, when he comes before God, and God says, “As-Salaam-Alaikum”.

Is the sentiment expressed in this article the position of Delaware Right, or just the author’s personal position?

  2. Frank Knotts says:

Mr. Vaughn, the post is my opinion. What is yours?

  3. mouse says:

It’s sickening that someone of the stature of an elected official would so brazenly pander to tribal bigotry for support. I wonder if they trying to hide something.

  5. delacrat says:

    As reprehensible as Lawson’s comment was;

“But more importantly, this is the perfect demonstration of why there should be no official prayer, before, during or at anytime in conjunction with any government body.” – Frank

  6. Frank Knotts says:

I’m sorry Delacrat, not sure what your last comment means.

  7. delacrat says:

    Frank,

If public servants need to get right with some Deity, they ought to get it done on their own time, not on the public clock.

  8. Frank Knotts says:

Okay Delacrat, then we are in full agreement. This has been my position for quite some time.

  9. Rick says:

While I think the actions of Lawson and Bonini were silly, they do have the constitutional right of free association.

Islam is a plague. With very few exceptions, where Islam goes, chaos and violence follows.

Not only does the Muslim hierarchy despise the West, they hate each other. The Sunni-Shia schism has been fomenting atrocities for centuries. See Syria, for example. Poison gas. Are you kidding me?

Christianity underwent a reformation; Islam never did. It is the same religion of conquest and submission that it was in 600 A.D. And that is a problem. A big problem.

  10. Frank Knotts says:

Yes Rick it is good there has never been a time when Christians have killed Christians.
And as I said, had they simply left the room there would be no controversy. It is the fact that Sen. Lawson chose to use his position and the floor of the Senate to put voice to his bigotry, to put forth an idea that the state has the authority and should exercise such authority as to exclude all other religions in favor of one. Again this is why the idea of an invocation of any kind is not proper in a government setting.

  11. Honi Soit says:

“Christianity underwent a reformation; Islam never did.” -Rick

The Reformation started when Martin Luther stuck it to the Pope back in 1517. It continued for 100+ years. And Catholics and Protestants have co-existed without bloodshed ever since.

Now for the math. It took 1,500 years from the founding of Christianity for a reformation to take place. Islam is 600 years younger than Christianity. So if Islam progresses at the same rate as Christianity, we can look for a reformation in another 100 years or so. Why should we expect Islam to get this done in less time than it took Christians?

  12. Pat Fish says:

This is a test to see if I can post a comment.

  13. Rick says:

And Catholics and Protestants have co-existed without bloodshed ever since.

Ever heard of Ulster or Londonderry, lol.

Why should we expect Islam to get this done in less time than it took Christians?

Since the time of Morse (Samuel, not dectective), things have moved a bit faster than in 1500.

  14. Rick says:

More, from the “Religion of Peace”…..

Egypt’s president called for a three-month state of emergency Sunday after at least 43 people were killed and more than 100 more were injured in two Palm Sunday suicide attacks at Coptic Christian churches, each carried out by the ISIS terror group.

Sunday’s first blast happened at St. George Church in the Nile Delta town of Tanta, where at least 27 people were killed and 78 others wounded, officials said.

Television footage showed the inside of the church, where a large number of people gathered around what appeared to be lifeless, bloody bodies covered with papers…

“Religion of Peace?” Try religion of psychopathic fanatics.

    Submit.

  15. Honi Soit says:

Me: And Catholics and Protestants have co-existed without bloodshed ever since.
Rick: Ever heard of Ulster or Londonderry, lol.
Me: Ever heard of sarcasm? i guess my statement was too subtle for you, Rick.

  16. Honi Soit says:

What happened at the Coptic churches reminds me of what happened in Charleston two years ago when a white guy killed 9 worshipers at a black church. He hated blacks and wanted to start a race war. Now if Rick were black, he’d condemn all whites. That’s just how Rick “thinks”.

  17. mouse says:

That’s it, I’m starting my own church!

  18. mouse says:

And cut these guys some slack, after all pandering to bigotry and racial resentments is really the only tool the republican party has for appealing lower middle class uneducated folk

  19. Frank Knotts says:

Rick, your problem is you either can’t or refuse to see the difference between the radicals and the religion they have corrupted. If you would seek information from places other than hate sites, you might realize the difference. And that it is the extremist who kill, not the religion.

  20. Mike Protack says:

This post proves what an absolute fool Frank is and will always be.

Every majority Muslim country is at war or totally outside the bounds of normal behavior. Saudi Arabia beheads people, provides airline terrorists and money for radical Islam and they are one of the best.

The simple fact is Europe is imploding with Muslim ghettos and violence.

I make my observation based on seeing and knowing the world not a random, uninformed perch in Sussex County.

The US, a majority Christian country, is totally outside the bounds of normal behavior as a consequence of always being at war.

  23. Frank Knotts says:

What kind of idiot post the exact same comment under two different names back to back? Especially when there is a rule against sock puppets. “Stupid is as stupid does”.

  24. Henry says:

Then Frank you pretty damn stupid!

  25. mouse says:

It’s interesting how the “conservative” types who identify with those who have wanted to silence, harm or murder scientists/intellectuals and reformers throughout all of history are so easily obsessed with tribal religious resentment above all else. I’m more concerned about riding my beach cruiser, my kid’s college and financial viability and just having fun than some Islamic boogie man. Not sure what so obsesses people with tribal hate and fear. Probably a combination of ignorance and poor character. Maybe defective genes. No wonder these types are so fearful of evolution lol.

Got something to say? Go for it!
